After the front that came through last night, I found it much more difficult to find concentrated fish. In fact, for the first hour and a half I found none. Now some of that may be due to the fact I was exploring different water today, but still, I expected the Ned to dig up something. When it finally did, it was not a bass.

This guy was a skinny 21" fish that weighed slightly less than 3 pounds.

I eventually did catch five bass, all of which were between 12 and 14 inches.

Water temp was cooler, 54 to 55 degrees.

Myself and Muddy were out there this morning also, we went out of Big M.  Fishing was a bit slow for us also, I am also blaming it on the cold morning.  We caught a few nice largemouth to start and Muddy got a fat keeper sized spot, I think we got 4 or 5 that went between 2-3 lbs.  One it got later in the AM, we caught some fish, but smaller, in the 12 inch range.  We never found a bunch of them, just one here and there.  All Ned fish except one caught on a c-rig.  Also noted that the water temp was 54 to start, saw 56 when we left around 1230.

I personally don't ever fish the so called "ned" rig. Have to hand to those that do, it seems to work!

I rather fish a fish doctor on a c-rig or Texas rigged green pumpkin finesse worm if times are that tuff.

Every year of late, reading more and more of and about the little do nothing ned rig. Just not the way I want to fish for them. Not knocking anyone who does, just not for me.

I find it very relaxing. However, I am changing my set up. During the last outing, I noticed my left shoulder aching. That shoulder is the one I had surgery on a few years ago.  I recovered full range during rehab, but the arm has never recovered full strength. I tried to figure out the reason for the ache, and I finally decided that it must be because I palm my reel with the left hand and hold the rod so motionless.

I ordered a left hand reel so that from now on I will hold the rod and reel with my stronger right arm and reel with my left.

Or there's always that other option...;)

Nice try Dave, but I hate spinning rigs. They were invented and became popular because casting reels were direct drive (BTW I learned to cast on a hand me down direct drive Shakespeare President). And yes, I have seen Mexican fisherman do amazing things with a Coke can and hand thrown bait. I simply do not like them. Besides, if you fished my set up for a day, you would want one of your own.

I'm assuming you are using a spinning reel. Does the handle not unscrew to where you can use it on the other side? I think all my reels do but I haven't checked them all to be certain.

RPS with a spinning reel! Now that is funny. You'd have a better chance of seeing Mr. Ned fishing near Holiday Island.
