Guest Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 I've been buying up dirty water gear this week. Specifically the Strike King Hack Attack heavy cover Swim Jigs. they look amazing & have a rather large hook on them. When I got home & starting fingering them, I noticed the hook point was dull. Sorta like it hit a rock, whats the deal? I gave it the fingernail test & it wouldnt scratch the nail. I have to sharpen a brand new jig hook. Then I start to rig a swimbait on the original chatterbait & noticed the same thing. The hook point was bent over like it was hit with a hammer. It failed the finger nail test also. Whats going on with Quality control? I'm targeting big bass with these baits. What brand flipping jig do yall like? (not finesse jigs)
Ketchup Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Being a shallow water guy, I rarely, if ever throw heavier than a 1/2 ounce. I did use a 3/4 last spring to entice some pre-spawn pigs but didn't connect. Sounds like they shipped out a load of 2nds on those hooks. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. Guest Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 I'm looking for a 3/8oz living rubber jig with a 5/0 round bend hook. Which model Nu-Jig does that describe?
fishinwrench Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 I've been a Crock O Gator supporter for the last 7-8 years. Their 3/8 is a bit light but their 1/2 oz Zapper jig is perfect, and the 3/4 Reaction jig is a sweet deep brush tool. On all of their jigs you'll want to modify the brush guards a bit, but everyone likes theirs different so that's just a standard part of jig fishing. The move back to living rubber (by alot of guys) is a mistake IMO. I know why they are doing it (because it looks so much better to US in the kitchen sink) but the fish like silicone better. And silicone skirts skip and slide through cover better.
Guest Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Living rubber flairs out better than silicone, but they both catch fish.
moguy1973 Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Check out Siebert Outdoors. He makes some really great jigs and offers some with all rubber skirts and some some with a rubber/silicone mix. Prices are similar to the store bought ones. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

(not finesse jigs) Lot of hooks get damaged during molding, handling, painting, etc. Even with heavy wire it's easy to accidentally roll a point. Bad thing is, modern needlepoint hooks don't sharpen worth a rip once damaged. mixermarkb 1
Guest Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Roll your own. Much, much cheaper. You talking about the rubber skirt? Ive gotta bunch of living rubber but it's really hard to turn into a decent looking skirt.
dtrs5kprs Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Wire wrap it, or thread tie it. Just need a vice, wire, or a bobbin and heavy thread.
