Rim Shoals Resort

First timer.. 

Taking a trip to the white river in May and we are staying at Rim shoals Resort. Can anybody tell me a little bit about this area. Can you wade fish here or is the boat a better option? Most of us will be spin fishing, What kind of bait restrictions is in this stretch? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Boating is often the better option and boats are available at Rim Shoals. Gary Flippin also provides a water taxi service and can take you to areas to wade. 

Look back at older posts. Spin fishing is usually MORE productive than fly fishing if you can learn to use a Zig Jig.

Both are fun. Both are productive. I enjoy fly fishing and spin fishing.

Though I have not been there in 10 years, there used to be a "artificials only" section right at Rim Shoals, which is an excellent area of the river. Be sure you know exactly where that area is marked and the precise current regulations for the area. BTW, the next section above the restricted Rim Shoals area is called Redbud shoals, I believe. It used to hold excellent examples of large Rainbow and Brown without being restricted.

Red Bud shoal is just upstream from the resort; the catch and release area starts just above it and extends about a mile and a half downstream. Both end are marked by signs on the side of the river. There isn't a single hook regulation any more but there is a barbless requirement.

Thank you for clarifying. Although I fished the area every year for 17 years, it has been a while since I was there.

We  were there in early Feb. and took our kayaks. We could paddle up to Redbud Shoals easily. Caught lots of fish while wade fishing. Fished mainly with small olive sow bugs and scuds, but caught lots on other stuff. There was a guy parked in the middle of the river just up stream and spin fishing with a 100th oz olive jig under an small bobber and caught 2 to our 1 all day. Caught more fish at Redbud Shoal than down stream at Rim Shoals. Took a day to go below Norfork and floated to the White and it was a good day. Caught mostly rainbows but caught a few browns along the way.

The only time I ever scored "the slam", rainbow, brown, cutthroat, and brook, came on Norfolk. The largest brown came from the Boy Scout hole below the dam. The largest rainbow was at Rim Shoals. I love those rivers.

Gary and his wife do a really good job there. You'll be in a good spot. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and you'll have an awesome trip.
