Another good day. We did a couple things different. Fished long streches of banks close to main lake points. These banks had fist size chunk rock on them that i took pictures of before the water came up. We fished the "normal" shore line which was about 6-8 foot out as best we could tell. Pitched a pbj jewel finesse jig with a UV craw.  Once the jig fell off the natural first rock ledge, hold on. Several (20-30) shorts, then when we came to flooded bushes we pitched right to the bush/shore line. Large mouths were in the bushes and we ended up with 7 keepers. All were about 3-3 1/2 lbs on our scale which is pretty accurate. On the point itself we did not sit out on it and cast to the bank as we saw a ton of boats doing. Instead we stayed on each side of the point itself in about 30 plus water and cast parallel to the point where it dropped off into deeper water. Kip and i were on the front deck and it worked well. One of us would be 3-5 foot deeper than the other but covered the "sides" of the points well. Caught a lot of short fish, mostly small mouth but picked up a few (3) more keeper kentuckies which were like footballs, ready to explode. My son caught a bunch of short smallies on the ned as well. Probably one of the best "number" days we have had yet this year. Nothing on a spinnerbait in the flooded bushes, Lord knows we tried! Nothing on the swimbait either today. The gentleman in the new 521 (?)Ranger with the G2 and Ultrex (i think) gorgeous boat and hope you did as well as us.

Sorry for the long post, different stuff worked for us and wanted to share as much detail as i could. Take care.

Hey!  That was me!  Thanks for the nice compliment!

And yes, we did do pretty dang well. I'd guess 30 - 40 total and I counted keepers as 14. However, unlike you, we had one largemouth and no Kentucky's unfortunately.

But, man, those smallies were fun!  We tried a bunch of stuff but the Ned was the deal for us (again). I also agree that the sides of the points was best. We also spent a lot of time paralleling the banks with the boat in 15 - 20 foot of water. Seemed as if there was gravel then there were fish.

Caught them on the bottom, swimming and even fast reeling back to the boat after a cast was thought to be done. All were fat and aggressive and full of shad and or crawdads.

What boat were you in?  I wish you would have stopped and said hello. I feel like we already know each other just from the discussions we've had here. Maybe tomorrow!

Funny you mentioned the Ultrex. It must have been pretty apparent the boat was "driving" itself most of the day!

Thanks again for the kind words about the boat. It's nice to hear that someone else noticed and liked it.

We have a red/black Skeeter TZX 200. My boy and i were up front and my wife was in the back. That area we were in was really on fire. Spent several hours thereand didnt burn 5 gal of gas all day!

Yep, I saw you guys!  Unfortunately, I think I briefly had my shirt off when you went by as I was in the midst of a wardrobe change (or malfunction - your choice).  No losing that visual I'm afraid!

I agree on the area - I didn't travel a half mile either direction all day either. And just about every fish I caught was spitting shad or crawfish all over the place.  One even tossed up a little fresh water shrimp that I wish I would have taken a picture of.

Right before you guys came by I was fishing merrily along when I looked down and the shad beneath the boat were like the stars on a pitch black night. Their reflection in the sun was incredible. Then all of a sudden they scattered like crazy and three or four keeper sized smallmouth began slashing through them. They darted back and forth three or four times before they alll disappeared. I'd never seen anything like it before and it was pretty amazing.

Again, if you see me tomorrow feel free to give a yell.

Of course, after the shirt off deal I'd completely understand if you kept a considerable distance!

Thanks again.

Yep, that was us. Didn't think a thing about the wardrobe, nice day for no shirt on the lake. I also had seen some shad in various parts of that cut. Must have had somethimg to do with the better than average bite/ catch ratio in that area. Hope to see out today. We head back tomorrow  (Saturday ) mornimg. My son and i have to work monday anyway.

Sounds good. We head out tomorrow also although Kathy's kinda pushing for bugging out today ahead of the storm. I guess it kinda depends on whether or not this current stuff moves through as predicted.

It seems to be lingering and building a bit contrary to the forecast.

I guess we'll wait and see but I sure would like to get back out there one more day.

Well, we are picking up the condo and headed out this morning. Little C is disappointed but maybe a tenderloin at Smiths in Boliver will help. You all take care and hope to be back very soon.
