Members IdleTime Posted May 4, 2017 Members Posted May 4, 2017 Brandon, Did this project over the winter and struggled with adhesive or not. I choose not to use adhesive but in hindsight wished I had. I would use a cheap spray adhesive on the large bunk face to carpet just to keep this side flat and secure, wrap and staple. Was difficult for me to staple one side (underside) then wrap all the way around and staple keeping the carpet pulled tight. Good luck
m&m Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 I was wondering if you could use the 2x6 composite boards instead of wood but still put the carpet on the composite. Anyone ever tried it? Thoughts? Mike

Anyone ever tried it? Thoughts? Mike I wouldn't see why not. They make special staples that work with the composite that have barbs on them so they don't pull out of the composite as easily. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

That just sounds like a rot issue waiting to happen. I took the carpet off, pulled all the staples and clean up the bunks before I installed the new covers. The boards were treated pine in great condition.

That's probably better than having the carpet on there being wet longer up against the wood. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Members LakinZ Posted September 14, 2022 Members Posted September 14, 2022 I upgraded my worn-out and damaged bunker carpet by CE Smith carpets for the boat trailer bunk. Interestingly, it is made out of 100% PET polyester, which makes its fabric breathable. Therefore, the carpet can quickly dry even after loading and launching my boat. Worrying about nasty mildew and mold on my bunk boards becomes a thing of the past.
Maverickpro201 Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 When I redid the bunks, I order my carpet from Bass Cat. Is really nice carpet. and the width was just right.
