Found this today and learned a few things like putting the throttle in gear to prevent the prop from spinning while on the road.  Anyone know what the thin cable thing is that was hooked up after he hooked the chains up?

Brake cable. Activates brakes if trailer comes off hitch.

Not really sure why he worries about prop rotation going down road.

If the motor is tilted up the prop isn't going to spin.  Tilt a buzzbait a few degrees and try to make it spin by blowing on it.  Better to have the gearcase in neutral just in case you bump something or run over a deer/dog/armadillo/piece of wood.  Might save a prop, propshaft, gears, or driveshaft.

I haven't seen a prop rotate on a motor going down the road in many many years.  A long time ago some guys in the club I fished put it in gear like the video because they thought it would save the water pump impellor.  All I ever did was use a bungie cord to hold it.

LOL. The water pump doesn't move unless the pistons are moving.

Like I said they thought it would save the water pump.  None of them were engine techs, just carpenters, plumbers, cabinet builders and well drillers.

From personal experience I will add.that once you have the trailer hooked up, swing that jack stand up and away right then and there, dont.think, eh I will get it in a minute.  Amazing how much of a ditch it can dig in your yard.  :o
