moguy1973 Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Found this today and learned a few things like putting the throttle in gear to prevent the prop from spinning while on the road. Anyone know what the thin cable thing is that was hooked up after he hooked the chains up? -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
jdmidwest Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Brake cable. Activates brakes if trailer comes off hitch. Not really sure why he worries about prop rotation going down road. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
fishinwrench Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 If the motor is tilted up the prop isn't going to spin. Tilt a buzzbait a few degrees and try to make it spin by blowing on it. Better to have the gearcase in neutral just in case you bump something or run over a deer/dog/armadillo/piece of wood. Might save a prop, propshaft, gears, or driveshaft. grizwilson 1
Dutch Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 I haven't seen a prop rotate on a motor going down the road in many many years. A long time ago some guys in the club I fished put it in gear like the video because they thought it would save the water pump impellor. All I ever did was use a bungie cord to hold it.

The water pump doesn't move unless the pistons are moving.

fishinwrench Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 I'll forgive all but the well driller. That sumbitch oughta know how a water pump works. 😀
MOPanfisher Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 From personal experience I will add.that once you have the trailer hooked up, swing that jack stand up and away right then and there, dont.think, eh I will get it in a minute. Amazing how much of a ditch it can dig in your yard.
