I have a map. I guess just don't know what they mean by flats

Shawncuz,

The flats I fish the most in the summer are just North of Mutton Creek on the West side of the lake.   They extend out to almost the middle of the lake with 10-20' depths then drop off to 40-50'.    I like to fish the edges of the flats with bouncers or leadcore with crankbaits.

A flat is any piece of shallow structure that extends out in to the main lake then typically drops off to the main lake channel.

I think I fish those same flats,if so ,they are across the lake from Ruark Bluff campgrounds, pretty easy to find as theres a warning buoy there If theres enough wind I usually drift the 10-20 ft. depths with bb or jigs. Don't be afraid to go shallow

These flats r south of mutton creek. The flats Gary is talking about r North of mutton creek..  There r several flatsthoughout the lake. There r some further south than the ones Mikeak is talking about also.  And don't forget about the back of coves a lot of them r mud bottom and walleye will be there this time of year.  I like to jig and crawler fish the same conservation brush piles that the crappie fishermen fish just hit the edges of them.

Most people fish to shallow or too fast for walleyes..invest in a drift sock, slowing down works, also slip bobbing can be your friend, and not all bait is created equal

get this book, think its had 3 printings, pricy paperback look one up on eBay.....but its the bible of Crawlers I guard my copy bought in the 80's like a gold coin,
