Royal Blue Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Decided to hit Bull Shoals on Wednesday early morning. Went down K hwy to see how close to the ramp we could get. It's literally 20 feet below the water surface so I turned around and launched right then and there from the road. You know a lake has a ton of water in it when you're going to the backs of creeks and pockets only to look down at the GPS and see that you're not even close to the lake! We saw tons and tons of deer, 2 coyotes, a bobcat, a wood duck, a cottonmouth, and a fox. It was like wild kingdom out there! For what it's worth there are millions of shad everywhere on that lake right now. When we'd see fish busting them, we'd chuck a square bill in there and get bit instantly. While you'd reel them in, you'd get 5-6 trying to steal it out of the hooked fish's mouth. Most of those fish were around 10-12 inches, but it was fun. We did have 2 keepers on the plopper going along the bushes in the very backs of creeks. We hit several areas all around K-Dock. I had one really nice fish on a Jackall Gantarel using my big swimbait setup. It was my first time throwing that lure. It looks amazing in the water and the two bites I had on it were pretty fierce. We had several 4lb class fish on mouse and purple shad colored War Eagle spinnerbaits too. If there was any kind of ripple on the water, those got crushed. Great day and only saw 3 other boats. Put in at 6:00am and were off the water by 1:30. WT was 83. This post has been promoted to an article Champ188, nomolites, dtrs5kprs and 11 others 13 1
vernon Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Great trip! Those are some great looking fish. I really miss Bull Shoals. We haven't been over there in 10 or 12 years now. Used to go at least once every spring for a week. One year is was up 40 ft. and we thought there was no way we were gonna catch anything. It just looked so different than what we were used to from previous years and all our "spots" were out in the middle of the lake somewhere. Turns out, it was one of the best trips ever - we must have averaged 100 fish per day and had ten fish that were 5 lbs. or bigger and too many to count in the 3 lb. range. The best part is that most of them were caught ripping tandem willow spinnerbaits about a foot under the surface in all the flooded junk in the backs of creeks and pockets. Lies, I say. LIES! Everyone knows that bass won't hit a tandem willow spinnerbait in the bushes in the backs of creeks/pockets in the spring. You are in timeout until further notice. gruber and magicwormman 1 1

Royal Blue Posted August 18, 2017 Author Posted August 18, 2017 Champ, you'd have loved it Wednesday. They were just crushing the blade as long as there was a breeze. No breeze, no bueno.

No breeze, no bueno. Sounds like a blast for sure. Wasn't quite that much fun on the Rock. Caught some TW fish and actually did throw a blade for a bit just to see if I could catch one on it. I did. Small one. Emphasis on small. Emphasis on one. Royal Blue, Carl W and magicwormman 3
