Ozarks Chillbilly Posted September 23, 2017 Author Posted September 23, 2017 What do you guys think of the first part of this fly (before he articulates it) for warmwater and/or saltwater species?it looks pretty cool. Live count (10/19/17) : Streamers lost to Taneycomo's Giant Squid = 12
fishinwrench Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Jerk stripped across current it will move like a standard Deciever. Stripped through still or slow water it's just gonna tow through the water like a wad of grass. Where flys like standard Decievers shine is when you need to make LONG casts quickly to extremely active fish, like blitzing stripers that are in a mood to eat anything that moves..but you can't get very close to them without putting them down. Pointy nose flys cast really good, but unless you can quarter them across a decent flow they just don't have much action. Ozarks Chillbilly 1
Ozarks Chillbilly Posted September 25, 2017 Author Posted September 25, 2017 Went out today on the boat. They were running about 2 units most of the morning at least. Caught 1 on Tiger Tail, cousin got a decent one on an egg pattern. That sums up the entire trip... pretty slow goings. Back to the vise for the week~ Anyone whipping up some captivating creations? Nothing but leeches and other boring stuff from me until I can get out and put a few to the test. I'd like to find a good "worm" fly. Or something that can be worked right down in the log jams and root wads, for the times when Smallies won't come out and chase anything.

One time I tied a black chenille off the back of a hook, wrapped copper UV polar chenille up to the hook eye which had a ex. Small gold conehead. Looks pretty cool in the water, only fished it once and caught a dat little bluegill. I'll see if I can't find a pic EDIT: Similar to this but without the wacky colors Live count (10/19/17) : Streamers lost to Taneycomo's Giant Squid = 12
fishinwrench Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I've tried the furled chenille worms, and rabbit strip worm flys. Success was not there. There was a rubber band worm/leech fly that I messed with years ago that had promise, but I abandoned it for some reason that I'm sure I'd remember if I tried it again.
Ozarks Chillbilly Posted September 25, 2017 Author Posted September 25, 2017 Right. I feel like they're kind of a shot in the dark. Attempting to organize the chaos which is my desk at the moment, planning on some rabbit/schlappen/conehead flies in a bit. Trying to get a leach/sculpin immitation. Anyone have color suggestions? Ozarks Chillbilly Posted September 25, 2017 Author Posted September 25, 2017 Round one: Black barred white/hot orange Small black chenille Black schlappen MS nymph dubbing & copper cone These colors are kind of foreign to me but the scheme seemed intriguing. trythisonemv 1 Live count (10/19/17) : Streamers lost to Taneycomo's Giant Squid = 12
fishinwrench Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I can see an angry brown taking a swat at that. trythisonemv 1
Old plug Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 WRENCH If I can find sufficient sized shad back in the coves I will be after them this evening with jigs tipped with shad. Need to get the shad about about 4-5 then beat to the spot while they are frensh in the Ice water in my little linch box. fishinwrench 1
