A shipment of pellets got delivered today, so once again all work at Sims Marine came to a screeching halt.  -_-

Did some accuracy and penetration/destruction tests shooting into a thick catalog at 30 yards .  The winner in both categories was the JSB  Jumbo Heavy 18gr.

The Crosman Premier 14gr. HP's group just as good but have a little less punch at impact (about 40 pages less) but they are still probably good enough to do anything I wanna do.  I'm gonna stay sighted in with them since I have 1000 of them.  IMG_20171202_154356217~2.jpgIMG_20171202_155345367~2.jpg

The 15gr. Gamo Hunters were ok but I can't stay in the 10 ring with them.

The 22gr. Gamo TS-22 that I thought was gonna be the bomb.....well they suck!  Impact damage and penetration was pathetic (I think they are too soft), and about every 3rd-4th shot was a flyer that wandered almost clear off the paper.

Haha. Good write up. I read lots, and those JSB pellets are the bomb to alot of guys, and work great in alot of guns.

I didnt think of the catalog for penetration test.  Im sure you have a few laying around.

Im gonna rely on the Crosmans as well, as they seem to fly good and i have 2000.

Your grouping looks good.

Any dislikes with the scope?

No issues with the alleged POS Gamo scope yet.  I have some gunsmithing background and know how to properly set one up.  I suspect that the guys that claim it is "junk" just really don't know how to ensure it is set-up properly.

#1.  If it is WAY off then it needs a shim, don't crank the turrets 5 turns each to get zero. By doing so your inner tube gets too far off center of the spring(s) and probably will not hold zero.

#2. Set the eye relief so that there's a full clear circle.  If you're looking through a halo, or you see a shadow on one side then you're not looking straight through the tube.

High dollar scopes are more forgiving of set-up errors, but a cheap scope set up well is still pretty reliable.....if it doesn't succumb to the recoil and fall apart inside.

Here's what I get with Crosman Premier Hp's.   Seems about right.  Will test some others when it isn't so cold outside.  Screenshot_20171207-145056.png

In case you always wondered....knocking your phone off a bucket happens at 51 fps with an energy coefficient of 0.1 ft/lb.  :D

Ive watched some of his videos. Kinda cool idea.  Hows things going with the gun so far? Trigger job yet?

Going great!   I made adjustments on the trigger but I see no need for doing anything else.  All of my groups are smaller than a squirrels head until I get past 45 yards, and I don't think I'd take an honest 50 yard shot on anything. I'm not confident about my pellet energy that far out.  In my opinion 46-75 yards is .22 rimfire turf, and not the place for these guns.  I'd need a way better scope and a nice comfy bench rest in the woods to even think about taking a 50 yarder, so I think I'm content.

Had my first Swarm magazine failure the other day.  Overhauled it and found lots of teeny tiny bits of lead had built up and caused it to drag.....so now I wash my pellets.  After 100 or so rounds of washed pellets I opened the magazine up to inspect it and it was clean as a whistle, so washing pellets with the 10x system is kinda mandatory I think.

Pretty sure my next project is gonna be hot-rodding a Crosman 1322 pistol instead of getting an open sighted rifle like I was wanting before.   Guys are getting over 550fps out of those and that kinda turns me on.
