JohnP Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Done euro mounts before, either boiled or buried, but never went to the extent of whitening and finishing that I did on this one. Boiled it, pressure washed it, picked it, re-soaked in hot water with dawn dish soap to degrease and then rinsed again, bleached with a 40 volume peroxide gel and whitener for 60 hours and then brushed and rinsed off, glued front teeth back in and secured the lower jaw back on with 2 part clear gorilla glue epoxy. Overall I'm pleased with the way it turned out, will say tho I'll probably just do a peroxide soak instead of the paste mixture. Preping for the pot. Deer head stew boiled up. Rinsed and degreased. Whitening process. Whitener brushed and rinsed. The finished product with the lower jaw reattached. Daryk Campbell Sr, Johnsfolly, BilletHead and 3 others 6
Johnsfolly Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 JohnP definitely a labor of love (especially overcoming the smell), but that mount looks fantastic! I love skulls and definitely appreciate a good european mount. Great job! JohnP 1
BilletHead Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Good deal John and great step by step process. I have done a couple just to hang in the shop but did not do the whitening process. Many moons ago when I could talk the Mrs. into doing anything I asked her to do a bobcat skull. She did a good job and I talked he into doing another for my dad. She did it too . The fun part was lining up and attaching both halves of the dang lower jaw and trying to match up the front teeth in the correct holes. The front to were no-brainers the smaller ones were a little more of a hassel. Funny you mentioned the bobcat I just happened to have found one this week that is going to be my next euro protect. Seth Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Those turned out great! I did a euro on my bow buck and one that my buddy got during rifle season. Simmer in water with a little dish soap for thirty minutes, power wash and repeat two more times to get all of the gunk off. Once the racks air dried for a few hours, I put a coat of volume 40 creme developer and set them out in the sun for a day. Mine could probably stand to use another coat of whitener, but his turned out perfect. This picture is after his had been sitting in the sun with the peroxide on it for a few hours and mine after it had air dried and just before I applied the whitener to it. The smell wasn't pleasant but the worst part of the job to me was having to wear a rain suit and goggles to power wash it due to all of the meat and and gristle that seemed to end up on me.
