Anyone know where the best place to take a couple of my rods to get some micro guides replaced in the St. Louis area would be?  Had a couple break off on me this year.  I'd try it myself but I really don't have the equipment to do it properly after looking at a few YouTube videos.

Take them to  Tom at T. Hargrove Fly Fishing 9024 Manchester 63144  314-968-4223. He does a great job.

Also, our own Timinmo, who works at Denny Dennis in Fenton will do that.

I do replace guides at Denny Dennis and for anyone in the north St. Louis area Bullseye Bait and Tackle also does them.  The only problem for me is that I repair them at home and this time of the year I will not be very fast.  Christmas is a big deal at my house, ask my wife, and everything takes a back seat to holiday doings.

Normal turn around is two to three weeks, depending on whether I have to order guides.  I keep a fairly large stock of guides but always try to match what you have.  Right now turn around maybe closer to 4 weeks, after the first of the year I would expect to be back to 2 to 3.

Ahh, thanks.  I totally forgot about Denny Dennis.  I'm not in a big hurry to get them done now so I'll bring them down  sometime after the first of the year.

I reread my above reply and thought the tone left something to be desired.

Please let me explain.

When I started working at DD I was retired and I only work part time now.  They knew I worked on rods and asked if I wanted to do it for our customers.  What we have worked out is people can drop off at the store and pickup there.  The store will collect money if need be.  That is the store's entire involvement, the money they collect goes directly to me, they charge nothing on top.  It is mainly for the convenience of our customers.

My rod repair station is our dinning room table, which right now is my wife's Christmas wrapping station.  I would like to stay married, so this is a battle I choose not to fight. If you can bear with me I can promise you a professional long term repair.

If anyone needs a rod repaired quickly I normally refer them to John at Bullseye.

What about Paul's Bait Shop on Chippawa?  They used to do it many years ago.  I stopped in a few years back and picked up some Shimano reel parts and noticed things had went down from last time in.

Many of us - 10 percent? - know how and can do these things. For the > 1% who will, we need to applaud and encourage!

Yeah, they used to be really great but it's gone down hill a lot and it's really unkempt now.
