The other came from someone who gigs every week. It happens man. was there booze involved? 5 hours ago, Hog Wally said: I'm not exactly sure what a conservation agent would have done to us? Do you have any clue about the law? It's not illegal to gig bass. yeah it is and they would have busted you even tossing them back to die 5 hours ago, tjm said: Nice weather for it. Sounds like a good time. Nearly a lost art, haven't seen any giggers in years. Don't know of any one who grabs either. if you are out at 3am you will see them 1 hour ago, Wart 57 said: Since when are small mouth bass not game fish ? amen 51 minutes ago, Gavin said: Might get a $3 fine per fish plus court costs for that. thats no lie......needs to be pricy to whoops a smallie 28 minutes ago, Mitch f said: What he means is that as long as you don’t possess them after you gig them and throw them back, it’s ok .Because it was a case of mistaken identity....then you won’t get fined. We all obviously will not condone the gigging of smallmouth or any other game fish thats BS the as long as you don't get caught excuse is why people like me and others who think them ol brown fish are special need better protections.... Hog Wally Posted December 3, 2017 Author Posted December 3, 2017 only imagine how many bass and other game fish get stabbedThis is the point of my post that some may have missed. Unfortunately gigging is a sport where you can and will mistake the identity of game fish. It's not unlawful to stab a gamefish. It's unlawful to keep it though. I can only imagine how many bass and other game fish get stabbed considering we are very cautious and careful law abiding citizens who have a passion for the river and the smallmouth timinmo, Smalliebigs and Mitch f 3

Chief Grey Bear Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I'm having a hard time finding in the Missouri Wildlife Code book where it says if mistakenly identify your intended target and you kill it, it's not illegal. I'll look again but the code book is very specific on the only legal means of pursuing bass. No where have I seen yet does it make an exception for gigging. Hog Wally Posted December 3, 2017 Author Posted December 3, 2017 Btw if someone is gigging at 3 am that would definitely qualify as an illegal activity and would constitute a hefty fine. Back to my foxhole

I dunno. Girl kills an elk thinking it's a whitetail, doesn't get a ticket. Instead she gets a really sweet article written about her. Mitch f and Hog Wally 2

My ultimate goal would be to make it illegal to gig That isn't gonna happen so it would be great if the fine was so high that people would take it more seriously. The prosecuting attorney in said county doesn't usually have a passion for the river like some of us do. I know these are 1st world problems. Right ? I've said it before , gigging sucks. Mitch f Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 We’ve been through this many times. I even posted a letter from the MDC that said if you keep misidentifying smallmouth, it would “probably” result in a citation. The truth is an MDC agent wouldn’t write you a ticket even if he was in the boat with you. That, in a nutshell is my beef. I wouldn’t care if they completely banned gigging forever. fishinwrench Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 The fact that they won't allow it on Blue ribbon trout water, but allow it everywhere else without even policing it chaps my behind. Smalliebigs, Brian Jones, timinmo and 1 other 4
