I was thinking like an ice chest with 500 minnows needs more O2 that 150 bigger minnows....in this case trout in runways 1 hour ago, Trout Addict said: In this case, I believe it's primarily a function of incoming water or Table Rock Lake. In the six years I've been fishing Taney, I think they have had two 500 year floods. This washes lots of debris into TRL and I believe it's the decomposition of that debris that has biggest affect on DO. Like I said I believe this, but I haven't actually researched it. The huge floods have drained areas that now have far more people than in the past...septic tanks, road hydro carbons, more hard surfaces this allows faster run off and will continue to push water faster...look at an old aerial maps of the greater Taney watershed (get the oldest ones they have on file, usually at the county extension office) and compare to google earth and you will be shocked!....all that pavement and roof tops do not sponge water, we will continue to have these issues...its one of the reasons you see retention ponds to slow water to storm drains....there are ways to mediate that with green spaces and wet land creation... as time goes on this will be a major concern..that and removing chronically flooded structures will be in the news 45 minutes ago, Trout Addict said: After reading your post again, idk. my experience with aquariums tells me they're about the same. As to my previous post, here link to a pdf that discusses that the fish do affect DO and it also discuss the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) of organic and inorganic effects on DO. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.caryinstitute.org/sites/default/files/public/downloads/curriculum-project/1C1_dissolved_oxygen_reading.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwj74tDB2v_XAhVU32MKHextDqoQFgg_MAM&usg=AOvVaw3yF9AScML0emn_hJcmd7-v good points....organic matter will decay O2 gets used....after the initial drop ,......the extra nutrients should see a bump in critters that trout feed on MONKEYS? what monkeys?

podum Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Re: the original question, no surprise that better fishermen (represented on this board) will skew toward size over numbers. It's a natural conclusion since these folks will catch fish even if there are less of them and the bigger fish are what we are after. The less experienced or part time fishermen will vote for more fish over quality size. This is the conundrum that MDC is in when making decisions. There are more part timers than experienced, committed, conservation oriented fishermen. It is a revenue question as much as it is a preference question. Most people are after that four fish limit, like it or not. They are not dedicated trophy fishermen, and would not even bother to come to Taneycomo for a "fine trout dinner a couple times per year". tjm Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 I suspect the entire hatchery and stocking program depends heavily on those 4 fish limit anglers more than it does the C&R crowd. A stocking once every 2-3 years should be all that's needed for a C&R area by full time expert fishers. The entire basis of the trout program is put and kill. It would be interesting to survey all purchasers of permits on the subject of trophy versus take some home conditions. 500/1, 1000/1, 10000/1 in favor of meat; what's your guess? C&R anglers are ten times more vocal but I have the feeling that they all post on this forum. Take a count Huh? 7 hours ago, podum said: better fishermen (represented on this board) 7 hours ago, podum said: more part timers than experienced, You may overestimate the requirements to join this board, they let me join and I am both a poor fisher and less than part time, not more than 50-60 hours a year these days, from some of the reports I read even some of the better fishers are not full time at it. My part time experience does go back over fifty years though so it might all add up to a year so of full time fishing. Even in the years I fished 300 days a year it was part time and more about me than about dedication to conserving an invasive species (trout).

The siphon that was installed at Norfork Dam has helped the DO levels there. Even with that the DO levels were still low this summer due to all the organic matter flushed into the lake from the flood in April. Here is a link to the details.... https://garverusa.com/markets/federal/65/norfork-dam-siphon/

They are always released imediatly, with maybe a few seconds for a photo opp I don't even chance putting them in the live well lomg enough for the boat ride to Lilleys for pics there. Besides, those 12-15 inch "dinks" make much better fillets. Real men go propless!
