Wouldn’t be against some smaller more remote sections of rivers closed off for their protection. Might do the fish some good too, having refuges that might actually get more serious protection. Of course, that is if they actually protect said areas.

We saw a bunch of them on the Meramec near Steeleville a few weeks ago.most looked to be 12-15” long, but onelooked like it was twice that long. It was the biggest one I had ever seen. Funny you mention that about gigging because I always saw a lot of them near Vienna on the Gasconade and that place got absolutely hammered by giggers. Those are the only two places I recall ever seeing them in a decent amount though.

you should report them to the biologist. Them being nocturnal, giggers are more apt to see them ta anyone else.

Ozark Hellbenders are only in the White river system.  Different type on the Merry mac and Gasconade.

No — It's part of the Arkansas River system/watershed.

Which Spring river? If I take a leak in Mammoth spring It goes nito the White river eventually. This is from the USFW. Range: The White River watershed in Arkansas and Missouri is home to Ozark hellbenders. Within this watershed, they are found primarily in the North Fork of the White River, Bryant Creek, Spring River, Eleven Point River, and the Current River. Ozark hellbenders have declined throughout their range and no populations are stable.

Ahh. I forgot about the Spring River in Arkansas, yes that is part of the White River basin. The Spring River in SW Missouri is what popped into my head. We were both right and both wrong!
