dan hufferd Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 I am looking for some chub like bait 4 to 6 inches long. I have tried traps but nothing and they are getting frozen over. Seems like it would be easier to buy a few for now. Thanks
bfishn Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Cheap 4' cast net at low water crossings. Farm-raised (licensed) bait is all that can be sold in Arkansas, pretty sure Missouri's the same. I can't dance like I used to.

I can't find a bait store that has them. I can catch them with a pole I just don't have time. Thanks I guess when I retire I could start a chub growing company.

I think you should talk to our buddy JohnsFolly. We know he is the expert on chubs :), BilletHead dan hufferd and snagged in outlet 3 2 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" bfishn Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 While we're at it... 4-6" really isn't much of a chub. Even an 18" wally will take bigger ones with relish. Biggest one I remember using was about 10", and it caught an 11lber. dan hufferd 1 I can't dance like I used to.
Al Agnew Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Guys who fish for walleye on Black and Current rivers guard their minnow spots zealously. It isn't easy to find creeks with a lot of trappable or seine-able 4-7 inch minnows in the winter. One old-timer I knew way back when bought goldfish when he couldn't obtain big minnows, but he didn't consider them to be nearly as good as creek minnows. I had a few good spots back when I fished for walleye regularly, and still have one spot that will furnish me with enough for a trip or two. But even back then, I probably spent more time getting bait than actually fishing.

Now I need them. Johnsfolly and slothman 1 1
