dan hufferd Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Well I got a on the water late, but at 22 degrees and a little wind, later might have been better. I could not find any fish until I was over 45 ft of water. I couldn't seem to stay with them so I tied up a drop shot and let the wind push me around. Drifting a drop shot in 45 to 50 ft of water is different for sure. I ended up with 3 keepers and 3 shorts. I really thought I was going to get skunked, I will be happy with 3, 12" to 13" crappie. lundone, wtr dogs, Johnsfolly and 6 others 9

Dutch Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 That is about how we found it on Friday. We fished from 35-50' using spoons and plastics. I caught 2 crappie and 1 smallie. My partner had 1 crappie and 1 spot. It wasn't windy on Friday but it was plenty chilly. When we put in it was 27° and 33° when we left. All of our fish came in about 40 fow right on the bottom. dan hufferd 1
MrGiggles Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Thanks for the report. How is the ice situation? Hoping to be on the water Tuesday or Wednesday. -Austin

Dutch Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 I crossed Turkey and Maize creeks Friday. As far north as I could see there was no open water but like dan stated no ice anywhere else though I heard that Mutton has ice in the back.

Members lundone Posted January 8, 2018 Members Posted January 8, 2018 A friend and I tried them on Sat. One 18" walleye and one short crappie. It was a tough bite! We found lots of ice in the backs of all the coves we tried and some floaters on the open water. Had a few other fishermen out but a lot of duck hunters back in the coves and they were having a lot of action.
