If I were going to look for a lake place again, I would probably head to the Warsaw realtors and study the upper end.  It's what we ended up doing, and if you're a bit patient, then you can find what you're looking for or something close to it.  We were lucky and found a place that is 20 minutes or so from Warsaw but is still somewhat remote. We've only seven other neighbors on our road and nothing across the lake from us.

The downside is that we're 20 minutes from Warsaw, and the last 0.7 mile of road is very interesting and something "we" have to maintain.

All I can say is you will be looking for awhile, there is a ton of junk and looking to live hear full time requires you to think about Road access in winter as well. We love living at the lake in the Osage Beach area around all of the amenities and have everything here as in a big city but if you want to get away it is just a short drive away. Being less than 3 hours from StL and the grandkids is also manageable as well.

We just sold our river place and bought a condo in Osage Beach for the very same reason. We are 5 minutes and two turns off 54 just after crossing the GG bridge. And like you say, in the middle of everything. And the State park and PB2 are 5 minutes away by land and less by water so we plan on spending a lot of time there. I hope to be retiring there very soon. But in the meantime will be there every weekend.  We looked everywhere before buying from the dam area, down HH and all the way to Camdenton but decided Osage Beach was the best access wise.

The upper reaches of the Niangua may interest you. Very little thru traffic past Ha Ha Tonka although the area is very shallow when at winter pool.

That area has become a zoo during the warmer months.  HHT cove is now a party gathering place.

Eventually I think some regulations will be put in place to keep giant boats from plowing up the narrower creek arms, but until that happens.....

I grew up fishing the upper Little Niangua passed Big Island...maybe a couple miles from the Hwy J bridge. We would be out on 4th of July weekend fishing out of paddle-boats, kayaks, and 12' john boats and never felt unsafe. Don't think we ever saw a cruiser up that far. Even as kids, we always caught a lot of fish.

You are 20-30 minutes from Camdenton.

True.  Neighbors are awfully close in that area though.   Depends on your definition of "remote" I guess.

I'd sure rather live in Prairie Hollow than the upper Osage.

Where is Prairie Hollow?

Upper Lil' Niangua area.   If you watched the Lake Ozark MLF footage then you've seen it.

If that's where I think it is, they are very close. You know where Wolfpen Hollow Road is?...they are just across the lake from there.

There are some secluded lots but I bet they don't come up for sale often.
