jdmidwest Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Spinach had thumb size leaves then bolted. I pulled it last week and composted. Gardens look so pretty this time of year, too bad it does not last. ness 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
BilletHead Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Tomato plants going berserk, Had to put on tallest steaks I had and then put in fence posts and put strings across planters. Started tying up vines, I am not sure we have ever had plants this stout before , Even got maters on them, So hot and humid I went through two sets of clothes soaking them completely doing this little garden job. Still need to do this again in the 12' X 4' bed. Maybe tomorrow? Ready for that first BLT with homegrown. Lettuce is gone so it will be with that store bought junk , BilletHead tho1mas 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" I would venture to guess they are hot house tomatoes. If they were good it doesn't matter. I will be waiting with baited breath for the first ripe one from the garden. Just got in working up more rigging for getting them under control . I talked to the plants as I worked them. I swear I seen a green tomato smile back at me, BilletHead snagged in outlet 3 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" snagged in outlet 3 Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 I believe they were started in a hot house because they have several big ones down there. Some years they are mealy with tough skins but not this year. My wife talks to her flower garden.
BilletHead Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 Heck I talk to my plants, my bees, my chestnut trees which by the way are starting nuts. I need to do this as nobody listens to me anyway. I really need to have a visit with the gooseberry plants and convince them to pick themselves :), BilletHead tho1mas 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Hopefully it will straighten up Bummer, I am guessing it was the storm and not your stomach that gave you fits. Came through here a little after four AM. Strong winds took many limbs and leaves out of the tall trees. Tomato plants looked OK. Good thing I did work on them yesterday. Hope your plants come out of it ok and your hard work pans out, BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!"
