My dad and I have fished the same spot on the Finley for nearly 25 years.  It's getting hard for him to walk the distance to get to the spot now and I'm looking for something we can get to with less walk for him.  Are there any good public access ponds or easy to get to spots on the James or Finley around Springfield we could check out?  We're looking to avoid the areas with rope swings where everyone goes to swim.

Easy public access always means lots of people.  But it doesn't mean there aren't fish there.  I've caught a lot of nice fish right around public accesses on the rivers I fish.  Even when there are people swimming and splashing around, the fish that live there are kinda used to the commotion.  But it's a whole lot more pleasant to go there when the splash and giggle crowd isn't, like early morning and late evening times, or on a rainy day during the week.

I caught a bunch of good fish around the accesses too. I would take a little road trip and look at the different spots on the James.

I have found that if you can go a little upstream in the morning and then downstream in the afternoon that fishing accesses where the floating crowd put in helps avoid the partiers.

Any MDC access on the James has fishing opportunities, get out and see what ones your dad feels comfortable with
