Members kvo113 Posted April 24, 2018 Members Posted April 24, 2018 Last weekend I found 2 'boats keep out' buoys in the back of one of my favorite creeks. I cannot figure out why this area would be off limits. Does anyone know who I could contact to find out more information about this?
MoCarp Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 they sell those online, great way to reserve a fishing spot me thinks... MONKEYS? what monkeys?
Royal Blue Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 Unless there was a sign from the MDC or the Corp, I'd go right back in there. They don't own the water.
Members Jim Powers Posted April 24, 2018 Members Posted April 24, 2018 Back of Piney is off limits to motor boats, if that's the one you're referring to. Not sure why.

Wilderness area no motorized on land or water except the guy who owns the 11 acres back there. “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
MickinMO Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 I believe an approved bouy would have a registration sticker on it. If it doesn't, call it in to the Water Patrol
Members Jim Furman Posted April 24, 2018 Members Posted April 24, 2018 The corp has a record of all the buoys on the lake and regulates them. They also have them on their GPS map. Call the corp to find out if the ones you are mentioning are legal.

He doesn't own past the take line... why in the world would that water be off limits??!! @Bill Babler

Members kvo113 Posted April 25, 2018 Author Members Posted April 25, 2018 Yes - - the area I am referencing is in the back of Piney. Last year there were no 'keep out' buoys in the area, with many boats fishing during tourneys and recreational fishing - I even saw a boat beached on the shore with a picnic campsite set up. There was a single, unmarked (faded?) buoy in the middle but it appeared to be a warning because there were submerged treetops right there. This year, there are 2 buoys well into the main "lake" area in the back of piney, not correlating to any markings or fencing on the shoreline. If they belong to the CoE and there is indeed a clear line that motorized boats are not to cross - so be it, and maybe they should add more than 2 buoys across a 150 yard wide cove, because a lot of boats are unaware what the buoys are for (that or everyone knows but doesn't care) If they belong to a private landowner or someone protecting a honey hole, they need to be removed or put on the actual property line.
