MickinMO Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Dawned on me recently that I don't think I have seen a boat out after dark on Taneycomo aside from a few around the landing to watch the fountains. Saw some guys bow fishing one night up river from Lilleys along the bank, but that is it. I know it can be tricky during daylight, but what keeps some die hards from night fishing from a boat? Handling the current, fog, bad fishing, etc?

Handling the current, fog, bad fishing, etc? fishing for big browns at night is a great way to catch a huge one...fishing at night you need to know the water, logs, places that can cause you to damage the boat...scouting or being familiar with where your fishing is a must, if the current is heavy at night last thing you want is get hung up on a log and go sideways to the current, even if you know the water night time can be disorientating...but planning and having the proper safety gear will help...blasting about at night is a no-no, MickinMO 1 MONKEYS? what monkeys?
duckydoty Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Fog during the summer nights is generally the biggest issue MickinMO and MoCarp 2 A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
laker67 Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 After 37 years of night fishing, I could count on both hands the number of boats that I have seen after dark. 9 of those would be MDC shocking survey boats.
tjm Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 1 boat maybe fishing in 37 years ? That is unbelievable. Is heavy fog a nightly occurrence?
JestersHK Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 I met a few forum guys a while back who fished Yaks at night around the trophy area. I wade fish at night and have never seen a boat at night up there in all the times I've been there. As Duane said the fog can get crazy thick when it warms up.

And in the 90's and early 2000's i fished most every weekend. Saw some kayaks and maybe a drift boat come up from the boat ramp when the water was off. One bass boat around 2004 and it made several passes when the water was up and running. It was a moonlit night and they appeared to be throwing some type of crank bait. They would drift close to outlet two and then on down through brown boulevard. I was at outlet two.
Dylan Cluver Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 When I had my drift boat we would head upstream to the cable with a 5 hp. We would anchor out of the current on the far side and fish streamers at night. We had a ball. laker67 1 No one gripes about obese fish.
