What are you guys using for a screw in weighted swim bait hook?  I don't use very often, but as a big fish bait I think it has the potential.  Especially this time of the year.  Using Optimum Boom Boom in 4.5", recommends a 6/0 if that matters

I started fishing swimbaits quite a bit last year and I mainly used VMC Heavy Duty swimbait hooks in 4/0 and 5/0. The 4/0 was used for the 3.75-4" swimbaits and the 5/0 for swimbaits up to 5". They seemed to work fine, but I definitely missed far more fish rigged weedless than I do with an open jighead. Not sure if I need to let them hold on the to the bait for a few seconds before setting the hook or what. Mainly happened on smaller fish though so maybe that's just part of using swimbaits. No issues hooking up with quality fish.

What kind of Swim Baits are you throwing?  I have only thrown Yum and Keiltech, trying a new one out this year.  Kind of a home run proposition for me, I haven’t caught a lot on the bigger sizes, but the ratio of 3-5# is pretty good.

Always looking to learn something new and this is one of my projects for this year.

Thanks!!

4” caffeine shad and the 4.5-5” BPS speed shad, Keitech Impact fat, strike Rage Seimmer and RI skinny dippers. Haven’t tried anything over 5” yet mainly since I mainly fish the Gasconade. I’ve got some 6” Keitechs for the next time I venture to the Osage.

I bought a bunch off ebay for a decent price.

I like to fish swimbaits but that is a pretty vague term. Hook decision depends on a lot of things. I use different hooks for different types of swimbaits, depths, and cover.

The different types of soft swimbaits I use are hollow belly style and the solid plastic like the keitech, rage swimmers etc.

I will always try to fish with a jighead and exposed hook when I can. Depends on cover. If there is a chance and multiple hangups I will use a weighted swimbait hook to rig weedless. I do not necessarily faver any specific hook. I like as wide a gap as I can get on the hollow bellies becasue there is a lot of plastic in the way.

I ordered some Owner Beast screw lock 6/0 quarter ounce hooks, but since last weekend was Mothers Day I didn't get out to test them and report back yet.  Hoping this weekend, but we will see.

Got me thinking about a new Swim Bait rod set up for Fathers Day- maybe a new Tatula SV reel to throw it on, mmmm.......

I use these https://reactioninnovations.com/estore/products/detail/?prodid=28&optionid=332 rigged with these https://directtacklesales.com/products/vmc-hd-bladed-swimbait-hook

It's a deadly combo and you can run them thru buck brush or cedars.....lots of movement.....tail thumping, body wobble and a blade. This combo on the rivers is sick really.

The Owner Beast bladed heads are good as well as the Trokars but, the VMC is cheaper and I like how their head cuts thru the water better than the Owner and Trokar.....but for my BIG swimbaits it's the beast everytime :)

Also do yourself a favor and go for the SV spool in a Tatula or a Zillion......I did and they were  the best purchases I have made in awhile

anybody tried the Jenko swimbaits? they look beefy. I havent seen the 3.25" in store, but I might have to field test them. I love the keitech lineup, but Jenko has a completely different profile.

I found some 6" creek chubs last week on the river, so I wouldnt be afraid to throw an oversized swimbait. or at least match the length. It was pretty close in size to a cigar, so a walking bait would work too.
