JestersHK Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I survived another year of crazy... Saturday we woke up, had some breakfast and then hit basspro for a bit to pick up a new hoodie wife bought me. Grabbed some more soft plastics while we were there to go beat on the bass again. Got a late start but my older two daughters still have the fish whispering down pat and the oldest hooked up on her first cast. Followed by my middle one shortly after. Nothing huge, but makes me proud they are catching all on their own, and fishing by feel too which for me took way longer to really get the hang of when I was young. It was about 90 so they didn't last too long. Wife and kids headed in and I got a few hours of quiet time to chase them on my own. Caught a couple solid fish and saw a big ol girl that would probably go 6lbs easy in the back end of the pond. I will say I'm starting to be a true believer in HUK gear. I have a few fishing shirts to keep the sun off me, but I picked up their vented hoodie and it's just a great clothing item I wish I would of found sooner. Was hot in direct sun, but had a breeze and I stayed nice and cool even with my hood up to protect my bald head lol. My dad had 9 spots on his hands and arms burned of recently so I am trying to be more cautious when out in the sun. Overall was a great day too spend with the wife and kiddos. BilletHead Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Good deal DJ, Fun with family. I like it. I know what you are saying about protecting the skin. We have been given one body and in all ways we should protect it. I have always protected the chrome dome. Straw hat but mainly just a ball cap. I started noticing some rough spots on top of ears. Doc says sun damage. Nothing bad but who knows what could morph out of it someday. Dad and grandpa did not shave their heads like I do but they got to be hair challenged in later life. Both of them got heads that almost turned turd brown in the summer. Especially grandpa. After seeing a now deceased neighbor that fished year around with no hat get places cut off of his face, head and hands as he aged it really got me to doing better. I remembered a sun hat discussion on the forum. I settled on a Shelta Seahawk. Full brimmed and have a nylon insert in the front so that in the wind and boating across the lake the brim doesn't blow up or down. A bit pricy in the mid sixty dollar range but what is our skin worth I thought. Well made and if I needed to replace each year or two it is a bargain. I could see you in one Buddy . JestersHK Posted May 14, 2018 Author Posted May 14, 2018 Yeah with my dad battling it now, hes had 2 chunks taken out of his nose, I figured I better start early. I'll have to check that hat out. I never wear baseball caps as I get a funky sun line on the old bald noggin, but I do wear a booney hat if I'm gonna be out all day. That was also my reasoning for getting the hoodie as the hood has good coverage and covers the ears. Kept the gnats out of my ears too on Saturday. Bugs are thick out there already... BilletHead 1
Johnsfolly Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Glad to see someone out there putting it on some of those stinkin' green fish ! Congrats to the girls on getting their fish on their own. Makes a father proud. Would love to get the girls together again if possible to chase some fish in a pond or a creek. JestersHK 1
JestersHK Posted May 14, 2018 Author Posted May 14, 2018 Next time you and the fam are in town we need to make it happen! I'm sure the girls would love getting back together. I got 3 ponds now just minutes from the house. Johnsfolly 1
JestersHK Posted May 16, 2018 Author Posted May 16, 2018 Went out around 7:00PM last night. Had the front come through and the Bass were on fire. Nothing huge, but I caught 14 on a senko and 2 on a BilletHead Fry topwater in about an hour and a half. They were still biting when dark hit and the bugs tried to carry me off LOL. BilletHead 1
