We are headed to Mutton to camp this weekend and go after a few crappie & Walters.  I haven't had the opportunity to go out this year  and didn't know if the crappie  may be post spawn in deeper water or a few still hugging the banks?   Not asking for anyones spots just trying to get a basic idea of a pattern.   We will be fishing out of kayaks around the coves and pockets.

Took the daughter and son in law out 6-8 Saturday eve and caught 12 in coves about 9' deep.

They aren't on the banks anymore. The spawn window opened and slammed shut within a week or so. Water temps were 74 yesterday,  72 today.

I messed around tonight and last night jigging on brush and timber, didn't have much luck.

The trolling bite is ON though. The big slabs wont leave a flicker shad alone, and I caught two 17" walleyes as well.

Most of what I caught were females that still had quite a bit of eggs left, I don't think they had a very successful spawn this year.

I believe its depending on where you are at.  I fished last week in water from 3 ft all the way out to 14 ft.  Depending on the time of day.  this same pattern was used a couple days ago with the same results.  2 limits each time we went out. Boat was in 12-14 ft casting to banks. earlier it was the shallower they were. Both days we had our limits and were off the water by 10 am. Im am sure that trolling is working also for sure.  Of the 30 we cleaned the first day only 1 of them still had eggs.  At least half of the remaining ones werre SPAWNED OUT females and the other half good sized males.  We caught at least that many shorts also (9.5-9.75) Had a Ball for sure.

we fished last  Friday night into early Saturday morning, fished shiners under lights in 25-20ft in the little sac arm. caught most of our fish either on the bottom or just a couple of feet off the bottom. id say 40% of the fish were females and they had not spawned out and there was little to no blood in the egg sacks. brought home 38 crappie between the 3 of us. counting all the white bass and the 1 keeper walleye we had it was around 150 fish night.  Caught a TON of short crappie from 8"-9 3/4" and TON of white bass. it would also come in spurts, we would go 15-20 minutes with very little action and then the graph would light up and it was  on for several minutes and then shut off again.  got on the water just before 7pm and was back at the ramp about 1:15ish am .

good luck to everyone this weekend, gald to hear the flicker shad bite is starting, need to get those rod holders installed this weekend!!!

Fished Wednesday during the day. Started off fishing in 10 - 15 ft and casting toward the bank. Picked up fish on the graph but no luck with catching anything. Was ready to give up and head home but while trolling back to the launch, started seeing fish in the middle of the cove in about 25 ft, suspended at 15 - 20. Caught a bunch on 1/32 oz. jig & minnow, mostly short fish but enough keepers to provide me with supper.

Thanks for the info ! I think I might try a slip  bobber rig from the sounds of it.
