Wowser!! I can't imagine the terror!! I saw my first and only bobcat in nature a couple years ago. She was sitting on edge of woods. I was in my car on a dirt road. I stopped about 40 yards away. We had a stare down for a good 10 minutes. She never moved and I drove off. Later a local buddy who said "Oh Yeah! Saw her too. She's been guarding her litter for a couple days". Definitely wouldn't want to tangle with her. Can't imagine a mountain lion. I believe there are a few in Missouri now, correct?

I lived in North Bend for about 20 years, but where that attack occurred really isn't that close to where I lived, probably 15 miles as the crow flies, but longer to drive there.  Lot of logging roads and tree farms where that is.  Very difficult to move cross country in that area, if they try and track that cat using dogs it is going to be a tough one.

Used to be legal to hunt cougars using dogs in WA state, PETA types got it banned in the 90's.  Cougar numbers have gone up, so have attacks on people since then.

Yes in '70's would use Dogs to hunt Cougars and Bears out there. Same thing in Colorado, had a Guy get killed by a Bear, ate on him for 3 days before anyone found out.

It's very sad to hear that that man lost his life but you should never go in the woods without a gun

Disagree.  I almost never go into the woods with a gun unless I'm hunting, and I spend a lot of time hiking in country with mountain lions, wolves, and grizzlies.  The griz are the only critters I'm really worried about, and all the latest studies show bear spray being more effective at stopping an attack than any gun (and I have a .44 magnum revolver, but I'm pretty sure in the stress of an attack I wouldn't be effective with it, it would be kind of a last ditch hail mary once the bear is on me).  Yes, there have been a few more mountain lion attacks in recent years, nearly all in places where the lions are living in close proximity to people and are not hunted.  I don't think there has ever been a documented lion attack in Montana where I am half the year.  And wolves aren't even on the threat radar.

Mountain Lion I don't think you would have time where they have no fear and see you as food.

Your riding your bike or just walking. A Mountain Lion will come from behind, wrap around you holding on with its Claws and Teeth at the same time kicking your guts out with its hind feet. They will not come straight on.

If you find yourself at the wrong place at the wrong time you can sure enough get attacked by a carnivore.   Bear, Wildcat, Shark, or even lesser ones that you never worry about like coyotes or wild dogs.

I've had less than comfortable run-ins with both of the later two.

I had to laugh at a guy one time opening day of Firearms Deer Season. Had a Bobcat come up by him and he left the woods.

Seen where a Guy had his Kid out Deer hunting during Youth Season boy killed a Deer but Hogs got to it and because MDC said they couldn't hunt Hogs they let them have the Deer. Tell you what I would be eating Deer and Pork.

Some things just can't right.

It is a shame that these people were injured, but why did they have kill the cougar for being a cougar. It was just hanging out looking for dinner, they are not even sure they killed the correct one.
