tjm Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 See, there it is, I was unaware that jigging spoons even existed. Dan, your post gave me a start to search from and after reading some patent stuff, I better understand the jargon. dan hufferd 1

tjm Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 I've only fished with the fly rod for many years, and when I think spoon, I think of Johnsons Silver Minnow or one of the many Dardevles, specially the red & white . Or a fly rod spoon fashioned from a Colorado spinner blade. Lead spoons are new to my imagination.
Sore Thumbs Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I’m sure both spoons work all year. That being said. Supposedly a flutter spoon is better when the water is warmer than 70 degrees and a jigging spoon is better when it’s less than 70 degrees. magicwormman 1
Sore Thumbs Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 What about fishing these around docks? Does rod size change? Do you think the Dixie Jet is better with or without swivel? If you do use a swivel do you put it on a leader or on the lure? Thanks.
176champion Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I have good luck with the Dixie jet spoon, in coleslaw or silver plated..I use mine with snap swivels, don't know if this is right or wrong. I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips

If you can find a deep dock (40+fow) with trees under it we've had a lot of success all year round, same with ned rigs suspending them over and down the side of the trees. It's frustrating when the lake comes up/down and the dock stall moves from where we are used to throwing over the target trees. Then we have to find a new spot similar setup. It's especially frustrating when the dock stall you're used to throwing in is open year round (no boat or float)..... We generally throw Dixie Jets (3/4-1oz Chome, white or coleslaw) or slab spoons (3/4-1oz silver or white, straight or with a slight bend/kink) on a 7Ft Medium-heavy / Moderate action rod on 12-15lbs flourocarbon or braid w/ flouro leader. I think the dixie jets come with a split ring and barrel swivel and I've never thrown it without, I imagine the line would twist without it. Great walleye/white bass lure to. abkeenan 1
Sore Thumbs Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I bought 3 this week and they do not have split rings or swivel. I went ahead and purchased some rings and swivels just in case. Gonna try em out this weekend. Carl W 1

This is pretty much my setup. 7' MH rod but I use 20lb fluoro. Reason being because it will slow the fall rate some which I think is beneficial with a flutter spoon. The heavy line I also believe is necessary because I fish it around docks and cables. So trying to jack fish out of stalls and the abrasion that goes along with it I like the heavier line.
