Ron Burgundy Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 I have a legend series rod that broke while lifting fish in the boat ...my question is does anyone know if they have a life time warranty?.....I emailed St. Croix but they’ve yet to reply....I have the rod probably 8 years so receipt is long gone...thanks Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford
fishinwrench Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 If it is a Legend, or Legend Ultra then you'll have to upgrade to Legend Elite (SCV) Don't expect the action to be the same, the Elite's have a noticably softer tip. Kind of a bummer. The Elite sure is pretty but it is not as sweet of a rod as the old Ultra's were IMO.
timinmo Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 At this time Avids, Legend Tournaments, Legend Elite, Legend Extreme, and Legend X all have 15 year warranties. A few years ago the Legend series had life time, I believe. Your best bet is to do what you have done, contact St. Croix. In my "limited" experience St. Croix is the best at standing behind their rods.
JestersHK Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 I just had an out of warranty rod replaced a moth or so ago. Just give them a call and I am betting they will take care of ya. For $60 I received a brand new replacement on one of my premier ultralights that got eaten by a car door. Thats a pretty sweet deal on something that 1. was out of warranty and they could of told me I was out of luck, and 2. was absolutely my fault for it breaking. I'd explain the situation and also kindly ask if they could inspect the rod for any defects. I'm kind of surprised it broke lifting a fish as I've put my little buggy whips through some abuse and knock on wood havent broken them other than car doors.
Ron Burgundy Posted June 21, 2018 Author Posted June 21, 2018 Thanks guys that great to hear I might get it replaced .....may have to call , they still haven’t replied to my email. Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford
shrapnel Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 I busted a 6'9 Mojo lifting a 2lb fish out of the water a couple weeks ago, dang thing busted like 4 eyes down from the tip. It's less than a year old and I have no idea what I did with the receipt...figured I was just out a rod.
JestersHK Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 @shrapnel Looks like your Mojo would fall under the $55 replacement plan. Plus whatever it will cost to ship the rod to them. https://stcroixrods.com/pages/service-warranty I'd call first as well and they will get you all setup. Also surprised to hear it broke like that.

Thanks for the link. So $75.00 to replace a rod that cost me $130.00 6 months ago...I fail to see this as a good deal.
JestersHK Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 So I would call them first and ask them if they can inspect the rod for defects. I agree a 6 month old rod should not be breaking in that manner. If thats the case maybe they would replace it outright or under the cheaper option possibly? Obviously my experience was different on a 5 year old rod out of warranty, but I found $60 for a replacement on a $120 rod that I broke was pretty fair treatment. Hope they take care of you, and good luck.
timinmo Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 So, you do not really need the receipt. Each rod has a serial number and they can tell when it was made. If you register the rod when you purchase it your warranty goes from that date. If you did not register I assume they use the serial number and go from the manufacture date. I am making some assumptions here. What St. Croix will do I have no idea, but I will tell you they have replaced rods under warranty that I thought were clearly abused. What do you have to lose.
