yes, and I've had a littl'un  (8"SMB) take just as I hit the lever and it get jerked into the sky.

I've never fished one of those reels but you story reminds of my first fish with a flyrod. I was drifting a white dry fly and lost site of the bait. I pull up the line and start my back cast and a 5 inch fallfish goes flying past my head and onto the bank behind me 😌. Poor little guy didn't know what happened.

Thanks for the info guys.  I believe these will be best served on a shelf for decoration.  Think i'll just get a basic white river or something of that sort.  besides i've prob got 4-5 extra rods the I dont have reels for and could use an extra one or two to rig up those as well.

Yeah, good call. And taking junior for a trip to BP or Cabelas just for him—priceless. He’ll always remember it.

I remember fishing with a fly rod and automatic reel for bedding gills using a small popper when I was a youngster and had a blast with them.
