I saw them breaching back around Labor Day.  Crazy to see a big gar jumping out of the water.  It was up river from Bridgeport.

There are certain areas (relatively small) here on LO that always have gar sipping and slurping all year long.  It makes me wonder what it is about those spots that congregate them and hold them there.  Typically the bass, crappie, ect. fishing in those spots is poor.

Gar can actually use their swim bladder to supplement their breathing, kind of like lungs.  Those areas could be ones with low dissolved oxygen.

The ones I saw where breaching like a whale.  I see gulpers on the Meramec all the time.
