Members CardsFan Posted November 25, 2018 Members Posted November 25, 2018 I am heading down tomorrow for a few days and it will be my first time on the Lake. We will be staying and putting in up by the dam. I plan to fish mainly for bass but I would love to target some strips for fun. I plan to throw the a-rig a lot and will have top water tied on in case I get lucky and they start busting shad in the area. Do you guys have any suggestions for either species? Currently tied on and ready: -A-rig -jerk bait -wiggle wart -walking topwater -small keitech swimbait -ned rig Anything I am missing?
bluebasser86 Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 I've only fished the lake a couple times but caught almost all of our stripers on an A-rig. No monsters, but up to 20 pounds. It's nice because it catches many different species. We caught stripers, wipers, whites, all 3 bass species up to 6 1/4 pounds, walleye, and I think we even had a big crappie on it too.
Quillback Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 Saw a guy catch a 13 lb. striper on an A-rig a week ago. There were stripers south of the dam from Honey creek to Starkey Hollow a week ago, of course they are always moving, but it's a good place to start looking for them. Look for terns flying and diving and usually you'll see other boats around the fish too. If the wind is not blowing you might be able to spot them feeding on top. Be prepared to move around a lot, until you get on fish. Black bass fishing has been tough for me in the dam area, the few I have caught have been on the Ned rig around clumps of cedars. aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 Whats the most durable A-rig out there?. Ive read so many reviews on Tacklewarehouse and almost all of them except the Yumbrella flash mob are horrible. I got a Strike King with the titanium arms the other day and then read the reviews on TW and was nervous. Almost every review said the arms fall off for no reason at all, just from casting. I threw it a few days and hung it probably 15 times where i had to pull the crap out of it to free it and it still has all its arms. Just wonder what everyone else uses. If they hold up to a 10-20lb stiper im sure the are tough
shrapnel Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 The Yumbrella is horrible! I bought 5 last fall and by the end of winter I had zero useable ones left, and several large fish lost to entire steel arms coming off of the rigs. J U N K.
Sore Thumbs Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 You need to add a jig to your arsenal as well. You can try the Strike King Titanium A-rig. Pricey but good quality. I used to buy some at Hook Line and Sinker in Rogers that were home made. They worked good. I’d have one with blades and one without. Some days they prefer one or the other. Have some good sized braid and stout hooks in case a Striper hits it. For bass I like the flash mob jr. With 2.8 or 3.3 Kietech in pro blue. I use heads no bigger than 1/4 oz. you can throw them on a spinnerbait rod fairly easily. Pretty sure winter series tournament was won on an A-rig today. Good luck. Quillback 1
Members Johnson Guide Service Posted November 29, 2018 Members Posted November 29, 2018 In dam area look for surface activaty from Starkies, Honey Creek, north of Point 1 Island, Dry Creek in the mouth of Indian Creek and up Indian past power lines to 4 corners. Dan the fisherman 1
