Members Golf Pro Posted December 27, 2018 Members Posted December 27, 2018 Jigging rap. Caught about 20 yesterday on it and never saw a cluster of fish like that until I caught one. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
Bgctrading Posted December 27, 2018 Author Posted December 27, 2018 Threw everything in the box at them I am by no means a great fisherman caught a few shorts (like 3).Am I wrong thinking these were bass or something else ?
Dock-in-it Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 The fish I was on did the same thing late in the morning. Late in the morning I could not catch them regardless of what i was throwing or what depth the fish were. I would put my bait in front of them and nothing would work. The first few hours of the morning the majority of fish relate closer to the bottom and are more eager to bite. Early in the morning the fish in the upper water column will bite a 3" swimbait. Yesterday you could of probably caught the fish in the upper column with a swimbait or kastmaster spoon late in morning because they were chasing shad on top. Yesterday I had 15 keepers. Today i had 9 keepers and two good walleye. 6lbs and 4.75 lbs. Water temp 48. Best overall depth range for me is 37 to 55. You can be glad that you found a big group of fish. Just need to find them in the right mode. Johnsfolly and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
Bill Babler Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 Those fish are active and should have bitten. As has been mentioned you could have and probably did try two very different presentations. 1 an Ice jig and hold it completely still with very little movement. 2nd. and for the last several days I have been hearing reports of throwing a 3/4oz. under spin with a 2.8 in Keitech, letting it sink to fish depth and reeling it thru the school. In reality they are catching deep fish and I mean deep fish on an A-rig, letting it sink 50' and reeling it thru schools. Two really different presentation, with one moving and one stationary. Again as has been mentioned Christmas day they were chasing shad on the surface and would smack a small swim bait or a Ctail. And, on the other hand sometimes they just don't want to bite regardless of what we do. By the way, that is one of the best set graph pictures I have seen posted on here. You have the right receipt, for that 7. Clear, precise and not filled with clutter, if anything you could even turn it down a point or two, but that is about as right on as you can get it. johnm Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Could have been a school of mostly smaller bass? Just a guess though
Bgctrading Posted December 28, 2018 Author Posted December 28, 2018 Thanks guys. Bill that makes me feel better I guess? I can sort of read the graph but can't catch the fish. Wish I would of had an arig... Carl W 1
Bgctrading Posted December 28, 2018 Author Posted December 28, 2018 I told my grandpa that was with me (he has never bass fished much) and I told him about this forum and I would have given anything for bill babler to be in the boat with us on that school of fish to show us how to make them bite. Bill Babler Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 You both would have probably been extremely disappointed.😅 At times I have had them blowing shad all around me and it was like i was not even on the lake, they could have cared less what I was throwing. Don't mind it so much if I'm by myself, but on a guide trip it is a bit embarrassing. At times they are so tuned to bait size and speed of the bait that no matter what you do, your chunking rocks. You accomplished the hardest part, you found them. and right now that is for sure hit and miss. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
