Members Cwallis Posted March 4, 2019 Members Posted March 4, 2019 Not sure if I’m invading privacy or not. How often do y’all use jerkbaits when fishing smaller streams. I have a huge assortment of jerkbaits and can’t remember which are shallow suspending...is there a way to find out without actually fishing them?
Gavin Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 A swimming pool works the best if you want to tune them. Research them on Taccle warehouse and YouTube.
Members Cwallis Posted March 4, 2019 Author Members Posted March 4, 2019 I thought about the pool. Mine is above ground and couldn’t dare risk the liner.

Oh how I love a good jerkbait bite.... gets me pumped just thinking about it. good question.... my advice would be go fishing sooner than later... nope that’s my own advice to myself. I’ve always found the best river jerkbait bite is when they transition from complete Winter slowness to water warming to the 45 to 50 mark and then it’s time for this dork to be out Daryk Campbell Sr 1
Members Cwallis Posted March 5, 2019 Author Members Posted March 5, 2019 Great advice. Do y’all tie straight to the lure or use a clip? I use polomar knots 99% of the time and they are down right aggravating on cranks and jerkbaits but was worried how a clip might effect performance?
Gavin Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 If the bait has a split ring tie to that. No split, tie on with a non-slip mono loop (Rapala Knot). If you remove a factory ring...you can affect the way a suspending lure runs. Usually use jerkbaits all year for trout. They work all year for bass to...but I would rather fish topwater...Will use a jerk if they are swatting a fluke and not getting hooked.
Al Agnew Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 I use a snap 100% of the time with jerkbaits. Most have split rings to tie to, and I just remove the split ring and use the snap. I trust a snap with a palomar knot far more than any loop knot. Smalliebigs and evilcatfish 2

Members Cwallis Posted March 6, 2019 Author Members Posted March 6, 2019 I’m wondering too. I considered the duo lock type. Or the speed clips. Was always concerned with altering the action of the lure.
