Dutch Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 You don't need a depth finder to find the cave hole. The cave is up on a small bluff above the bridge. As I remember it, you will find it on the left side of the river not far above the bridge. MoFisher22 1
MOPanfisher Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 From the east is no problem as the access is on the east side. But you most definitely won't get across from the west for a while. Last time I saw it there was no deck on the bridge and it looked like the steel beams were next. To me cave hole is on the right bank but hat is just because we reference everything as left bank and right bank while looking down stream. I tried to screen shot the area. Cave Hole is roughly in the center of the screen where the river turn back to the east. There is a parking area there and it gets a fair amount of use by bank fishermen during spring.

Same place for us both. My reference is I was heading up stream in my boat seeing how far above the bridge I could go in my old Champion and it was on my left but that has been a lot of years as I quit chasing them when you had the die off.
MOPanfisher Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 FYI they are coming back pretty good now. Not as think as they once we're but much better than the "bad years".
Dutch Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 I will have to remember that some windy day this coming fall. I have never seen the numbers anywhere else like your little pond had a few years ago. Big T and I broke our personal best record up in the Lindley one day. Back then if we only had 100 in a day we felt like we had wasted the gasoline to drive down there. We used to tie jigs with strange colors to see if we could find something that they would not bite.
Ranger520vx Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 They have definitely made a pretty good come back we were getting into them good last year. Most of them were only 8-10 inches long with a few bigger ones thrown in. But sure was a blast getting into them with a tiny torpedo. Alaskageek 1
Ham Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 I caught a pile of them last April up river. It was fun, but I did not consider ANY of them to be large enough to keep. Alaskageek 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
MOPanfisher Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Those 12 inchers aren't bad eating, but we would play with them for a while, then go catch a limit of crappie. Alaskageek 1
Members Alaskageek Posted March 15, 2019 Members Posted March 15, 2019 The WB die off in Pomme was before my time, so I can only speak on it for the last couple of years, and I'm only able to make it over from CO two or three times a year, but we seem to find them almost every trip.... thanks in large part to MOPanfisher and Ranger520vx. I've never tried for them anywhere other than the main lake, usually near the Galmey area. They aren't monsters, but we mange to get enough 10-12" to fill the cooler and the catching is fast enough to keep all my kids interested..... most of the time. Sure is hell competing with Fortnight. Might have to try the river this spring, sounds like they move out of the main lake during that time. A buddy and I are coming over at the end of April to fish for sure, (hoping to hit near the crappie spawn) and maybe turkey hunt... If I can find the $200 for an non-resident turkey tag. Will be my first trip without the girlfriend or any kids, so can be a little more daring in virgin to me water and stay out longer, cause if my buddy starts whining he's ready to go back to camp, he can swim!!!
MOPanfisher Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Barring a flood if you can't find some turkeys, crappie, morels and or white bass at the end of April you aren't trying very hard. Seems to me that the river is best in the fall, it can be just silly good at times like this past fall was. Spring can be good but always fighting a cold front, ra in and muddy water or something in spring.
