Seth Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 It was a good year for us at Snagmasters. We took 8th and 10th place with a 71.7# and a 70.0# spoonbill and pocketed around $1600. JestersHK, Greasy B, MOPanfisher and 1 other 4
Bill Babler Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 Question. I guided some guys yesterday that had just taken a SB trip with a guide out of Oceola. Their guide used both realtime sonar and Panoptics to find and catch suspended spoonbill. There were 3 guys and they said the fish were 20 ft. deep over 30 ft. and they caught them all vertical jigging. Said they had their limits in no time and saw the hook catch everyone of them fishing straight up and down. No dragging at all. said at times you could see a dozen or so Bills just suspended treading water in a very small suspended location. Very interesting. Wish I would have gotten this guides name, but didn't. Is this a new cutting edge way to catch them and have any of you guys heard of this method. Drop Shoting Spoonbill, who would have thunk it. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
5bites Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 Bill on Grand lake there’s a guide named Rusty Pritchard. He might be able to clarify some snagging methods for you. He gets them winter/late winter around Sailboat Bridge and we both know he’s not going to be dragging a giant treble around there lol. I never really gave it much thought but I bet he’s using a similar method you described in your post. Personally I know zilch about snagging and paddle fish other than in June running down Grand you better hope one doesn’t jump in front of you.
Seth Posted May 11, 2019 Author Posted May 11, 2019 Most likely Josh Jones. He is a big Garmin guy and has posted videos of them sight snagging paddlefish on his Facebook page. Rusty is a well known snagging guide, but I don’t think he has started using Panoptix yet since he is a Lowrance guy.

It’s something I never thought about for spoonbills. I’ll never likely catch one in purpose anyway.
