Hey guys, the boat I just bought has a 1999 50 EJRX Yammy on it. 

The motor was in a  crate from 1999 until 2016 when the previous owner bought it from an individual. A guy who works at a marine dealer bought it for his dad and his dad never used it. So, he purchased it from the employee and actually saw them unbox the motor. Crazy stuff.

Anyway, the motor was used once and then stored, inside, for 2 1/2 years WITH fuel in the motor. It was non-ethanol fuel with Stabil in it.

Where the lower unit meets the top of the motor, there's clearly a substance leaking out of the motor. 

I have had the gas line plugged in for a few days, as I  have run it for several days in a row, playing around.

When I ran the motor, I would run it for about 15 minutes at a time, full out, and then stop for about 15 - 20 minutes.

I think the gas may have eaten a seal and I don't want to run it again and risk burning up my motor.

Do you have any idea of what the leak could be coming from?

Please help!!!

I just hooked up the motor to the garden hose, took the cowling off and ran it for a few minutes.

I revved it up, etc. to put a little pressure on the system.

I didn't see any leaks. So, I wonder if it's a seal between the engine and the lower unit......

Any ideas as to what it could be??????????

Well, I just got off the phone with a marine mechanic and he told me it was just un-burned exhaust oil. As long as the color isn't Yammy blue, and it's a brownish color, not to worry.

Have you guys run into this?

It's not unusual for a 2 stroke to drool a little bit of oil. But I've only ever seen it drip out of the lower unit, or through the prop hub. Usually it'll be blue, or whatever color the oil is.

What the hell is "unburned exhaust oil" ?

If there's oil in the exhaust then you have other problems as well, and it would be seeping out around the prop hub, not the lower cowling.  

I can't tell for sure by the pic, but it appears that you have a fuel leak somewhere.  If it isn't a hose then it's possible that a carb float setting is wrong or needle valve is not seating and fuel is overflowing through the vent, or running out the carb throat when the motor is tilted.

I've been banned from dishes.  

The dishes I do always look clean when their wet, but after they dry there's chunks and spots on them.   Therefore I don't have to do dishes, but I do take out trash and do all the yard work without being told to.  😊

Thanks for chiming in! The mechanic said that when the engine burns the fuel with Yammy lube, the byproduct is exhaust w/oil. He said that the motor isn't efficient enough to burn all the fuel basically. What's left over is an oil residue that results from the oil in the fuel being burned and the motor passes the exhaust & oil out of the prop hub. Since I have a jet, the engine uses exhaust ports, etc, but it can't burn all the oil, so some passes through the lower unit from below the power head.

It's not leaking fuel, because it doesn't smell like fuel and fuel would evaporate and this stuff has been there for over 24 hours.

I know it's not leaking oil, because it's not that deep Yammy blue.

I'm going to roll with it and keep an eye on my oil level to make sure.

I really appreciate you guys chiming in.
