I have a 1983 mainer 40hp 2 cylinder. I got to the lake and went to start it. Fired up for about a minuite or 2 then died. Then it wont start for a bit. Then fires up and does the same thing again. Cleaned the spark plugs and still nothing. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Fuel line/bulb good? Appears to starve itself from fuel.

Start it, while it’s running, and sounds like it may die, pump the bulb at the same time to see if it stays running.

TinBoats BassClub.  An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.

When it fails to start are you sure there is fuel in the carb(s)?

Are you sure there's no water in the fuel?

Are you sure the ignition is firing all the cylinders at all times?

Are you sure it isn't overheating?
