jdmidwest Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 As part of my new directive, stop beating the same ole water to death over and over, I am off to new waters this weekend. Looks like Mark Twain is pretty quiet on here. Not much info. Anybody fish it? Any hints or special spots? snagged in outlet 3 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Gavin Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 Know a guy who goes up there for crappie quite a bit.. It's kind of a mud hole IMO.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 If you like 6-8” crappie you’ll be in heaven. Seriously, save your gas money.
jdmidwest Posted July 24, 2019 Author Posted July 24, 2019 So, its like Lake Wappapello?? But it looks so pretty on the map. I have to try new waters. Life is too short. Road trip and beer drinking. BTW, I don't crappie fish. Smalliebigs 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

X2 I fished it a lot in the late 80s and early 90s and did well on crappie and largemouth. Chased ducks in the 2000s. Guy in the group I used to hunt with still fishes the lake regularly for bass and does well but says it is very "spot specific".

Jerry Rapp Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 it has been a few years for me to fish Mark Twain, but I was looking at the bass world results and the winning weights have been decent. bwsta.com The lake is still being drawn down, but it will soon be back to "normal" and the flow will shut off, which historically means the bass fishing will decline quickly with the lack of water movement. If I were to go this weekend, I would fish the lower end and basically point hop. 10 inch worms, carolina rigs, deep cranks. Usually a spook along the dam at dawn or dusk would produce a few fish. Lick Creek, the indians, and spalding area all have decent points and drops that sometimes hold fish. Easy to find on maps. Lake level here at bottom of page. http://www.mvs-wc.usace.army.mil/dresriv.html Good luck.
jdmidwest Posted July 24, 2019 Author Posted July 24, 2019 I have been reading about the pumped storage part, that has to goof things up when they are working that. Might even start out below the dam and fish the power pool. Other ponds and smaller lakes in area also. After the events of the last year's, I know that fishing time could end abruptly.. My new resolve is to explore new stuff, see more places. This is one of those weekends. Jerry Rapp Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 the pump back is never used. Fished the re-reg pool a couple of times about 20 years ago. Caught some nice smallmouths back then, but have no clue what it offers these days. Sounds like an adventure trip of the kind that I used to enjoy. Looking forward to your trip report.
