Members KMHendu Posted December 14, 2019 Members Posted December 14, 2019 So being new to Missouri (Springfield), having moved here at the beginning of November, I figured the best way to catch fish in winter is to down size and finesse fish and that has worked. Ned, senko, small Texas rig worm/craw is my go to this time of year especially when shore fishing or wading. What are some of your go to lures and techniques this time of year?
fishinwrench Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 1/4oz.Hula grubs, suspending jerkbaits, A-rig, big thumper spinnerbaits. 3/4oz.football jig, 3" paddle tail swimbait. J-Doc 1
Gavin Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Just go trout fish. It is at its best in the winter. fishinwrench, Johnsfolly, top_dollar and 1 other 4

I don't have much to add since I do what Gavin says and I go trout fishing. Some trout spots like the Niangua may have smallies in the mix. I catch them on the jerkbaits or marabou jigs that I am using to catch the trout.. Win win in my book.
Quillback Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Ned rig for sure. Been fishing tubes on shakey heads this year with mixed results. Jerk baits at times. Been hearing that some folks are catching some on blade baits, but that's something I haven't tried yet.
top_dollar Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Suspending stick baits, small keitechs, and crappie jigs work ok for me, although I mostly crappie fish in the winter cuz they bite so well.
Gavin Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 If you want to fish for trout and smallmouth on trout water....1/8 oz hair jigs & 1/2 oz suspending jerkbaits. Usually fish a black bear hair jig(Bobby Westmoreland style with a rabbit strip tail),Lucky Crafts & Megabass (mostly discontinued colors). A Kastmaster spoon in chrome, chrome/blue, or gold can work pretty well, as does a Silver Buddy...not traditional trout fishing. Usually fishing with 8lb mono or braid and a leader. Smallmouth fishing is usually better in the heat of the day...12-4pm...Brown trout at Sunrise or Dusk...Rainbows when the sun is up (Dumb friendly fish).
