Oblong split rings are better than that😀
fishinwrench Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 I bought a pair of P-line split ring pliers a couple years ago......Man I wish I had more reasons to swap split rings! Those things are the coolest tool I even own.

It’s a tough knot to learn but it’s so thin and easily flys through the guides. It’s also so strong, maybe the strongest. Beats the uni to uni hands down for strength, which was what I was using before I tried the FG. that tiny fluff you can see is the braid separating on the tag I agree, that's what I use. Like anything else, you have to practice tying it. I have found that if you do not tie the two hitch knots in the right direction the knot will come loose.
MOPanfisher Posted January 6, 2020 Author Posted January 6, 2020 I tried the FG knot again last night. Have been sick for a few days. Hands shaking, and finally issued a few epithets that caused the dog to get up and move away from me. Failure, but man that one knot I got to work was so pretty.

Well I tried to tie a couple with different line diameters and figured out a couple of tricks about keeping the line more taught. I actually had a couple of failures myself with these 2 different lines "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
MOPanfisher Posted January 6, 2020 Author Posted January 6, 2020 I am using 8# Nanofil and tying it o either 6# Pline or last night 6# Stren golden. I haven't given up on it but last night I just didn't have the dexterity to make it work. I am gonna try a couple things to maybe hold the mono while I weave/twist the Nanofil to it. A big paper clip or maybe a clothes pin, something.
Members DG73 Posted January 15, 2020 Members Posted January 15, 2020 I practiced the FG knot all last winter and got decent at it, but out on the water it was next to impossible. Ive learned the bloodknot and havent looked back. it has a smaller profile and goes through my guides well, even bought a new Lews TP1 rod with Microwave guide set and havent had any issues Mitch f 1
