I have always been one for making sure the Hook is set.

Setting here watching Fishing Shows this guy says if a fish takes the bait you don’t have to set the Hook just reel it in because the fish has already taken the hook in and you will finish setting the hook just reeling.

What do you think?

To me it depends on the species, rod, line, lure and type of hooks involved how you set the hook ,or just steady pressure reeling. I know when I'm flipping for bass  I crack them good so when that hook hits their face I'm pulling them away from that heavy cover at the same time.

Thinking this too Flatheads get in some nasty crap and it is to best pull them clear or you never get them out.

You pull too hard on Crappie you are literally going pull their lips off.

I’ve caught fish on Truman Lake in brush you better be getting be getting them to the Boat.

It depends.

I'm not a big hook setter. A small jerk is all it takes with a good sharp hook.

Always cracks me up when a bass guy whips  a 12" bass clear into the boat with a rowdy hookset. With a rod like a pool cue and likely braid or flouro, just seems unnecessary to me, but I'm not a bass fisher, could be way off base.

With some hooks and fishing styles (trolling) a hook set is not necessary, but can help  in others.

Sounds like he was using circle hooks. They are the deal when it comes to bait fishing.

I crack'em pretty good.  Bass have hard mouths and I'm usually using a pretty beefy hook.

Lay a jig on the edge of a cardboard box, step back 30 feet and see how hard you have to jerk to drive that hook past the barb.  You have line stretching, rod bending, and the box (fish) being pulled forward.....all at the same time.   It takes more of a pop than you might think.

Well this guy was saying the fish is already pulling and there is no need to add to this that much more.

Well who is it?

Let's find a video of him fishing all day and then maybe we can determine if he has it all figured out or not.   🙄

Man that was couple hours ago. I don’t know.

I know I’m guilty of pulling out of a fish mouth at times.
