hillbillyflyshack Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 My fishing buddy and I came down friday afternoon to fish Lilleys tournament got into the cabin then proceeded to practice for a couple of hours. What a mistake as we caught some really nice fish including a 23 inch rainbow that was released unharmed. Tournament day started out pretty good as we caught a couple early but slowed somewhat until Johnny hooked into what seemed like a young submarine he fought that thing for about 40 minutes but the fish prevailed and we had memories of a tremendous battle. Soon after I lost the use of my trolling motor and we were at disadvantage on that kind of water but kept at it and caught enough small fish to make a limit albeit a small one. Want to thank the Lilleys and their staff for putting on a great event and the dinner was awesome to say the least. JestersHK, Seth, Quillback and 1 other 4
Seth Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 I sure wish you could have at least seen that giant that you guys had on. Those are always heart breaking. Duane hooked a big one on One Cast yesterday, but it hung him up in a tree and broke off. Last year my dad lost something that felt like a small submarine just above Short Creek the day before the RAW tournament. We chased it upstream for 5 minutes and several hundred yards before it found a big tree right on the bank. I had no idea that tree existed and it's now one of my favorite spots for pulling out decent fish. Frank was caught in that same area a few weeks later during the Elfrink tournament. There were a pile of nice fish caught this past weekend. I was rooming with the Duff and Burris teams and each boat landed a trout over 20" between Thursday-Saturday. We took third and Burris took fourth. Duff was in 7th or 8th so we all had a good showing on Saturday. Half of what we weighed came down from the Landing the other half were caught up in the Fall/Short Creek area. This was the most solid bag of fish we've ever caught in a tournament without having a big fish. We were just missing that one big bite to shoot us up to the top. If they keep up this amount of generation, I expect there to be a lot of big fish caught next weekend during the RAW tournament. There will be twice as many boats fishing and bait will be legal to use. Daryk Campbell Sr, JestersHK and Quillback 3

Seth Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 That's for the next month. I'm not sure if he has anything in March. I believe CAM is usually held in April. snagged in outlet 3 1
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 27, 2020 Root Admin Posted January 27, 2020 I think I'm setting the CAM tournament for March 28th. It's the one where all trout are counted - measured. I've sent the date to everyone in the office to see if there's any conflicts. I believe with the constant generation over the past year-plus, there are dozens of "monsters" out there, hiding and growing in places virtually impossible to get at. Then there's the ones that have been hooked and lost... so many stories over the last 4-5 days. When they slow down the water and what I would call GOOD trout anglers get here, we'll see some big fish come in. JestersHK, snagged in outlet 3 and Daryk Campbell Sr 2 1
hillbillyflyshack Posted January 27, 2020 Author Posted January 27, 2020 It don't take a good angler to catch or hook a big fish as I am living proof however knowledge and technique is a bonus. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
