fishinwrench Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 We recovered a boat once that had sat in 18-20' from late October until the following May (6-7 months). Winched it up very slowly, keeping it as level as we could so that once the gunnels were above water we could throw pumps in it to make it float again. There was 7-8" of sludge covering the boat when it came up. That's only after 7 months. Imagine what's covering areas that have been submerged since the 1930's. 😝 In case you're wondering.....YES I made the motor run again. 💪😎👍 snagged in outlet 3 1
rps Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Interesting comments about the sludge factor. Before I moved to Table Rock, I mostly fished Oklahoma lakes. Many of them are exactly as you describe. And the older they are the higher the sediment level. Other lakes are not as quick to silt in. On much of Tenkiller, Bull Shoals, and even TR you can still feel pebbles when you drag a bottom bait even out to 40 feet. BTW, the original post asked about confusing terms. One used frequently on this board is "roll off." A roll off is where a flat ( usually a wide flat point) suddenly rolls into deeper water. Often, not always, the flat will actually rise a bit before it drops. During the summer, after the topwater bite ends, that is where I spent the majority of my time, other than treed channel swings. Bo's reports are night fishing based (I often wonder when he sleeps). He throws bottom baits. He even fishes his spinner baits like a jig. His method would not be so successful on a sludge covered flat. liphunter and Quillback 2

Randy brought up "roll off". That was one I wasn't sure about. Understand it a lot better now. moguy cleared up the channel swing somewhat. I used to dive some of the area lakes often enough. I have seen the slime that wrench is talking about. But usually it's just depends on where you are in the lake. Never have dove LOZ . But I could imagine, parts of it being in a somewhat flatter, farmland type environment. TR, Beaver , and Stockton don't seem quite as bad. Again, just seems to be where you are in the lake. of course, that's just my opinion. Feel free to have your own. lol, Good talk! snagged in outlet 3 1 Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???
