I started this spring determined to catch a fish on the chatterbait- have not thrown them much in the past for some reason.  I love how versatile it is- throw it like a jig, throw it like a crank.  Well, I still haven't caught on on it.  You have to work it pretty slow to keep it on the bottom...  but I am gonna keep trying!  Great fish!

You bring up a good point in that I'm not entirely sure it matters that it's a chatterbait when its worked that slowly on the bottom. The Z-Man Originals that I've been throwing seem to get out of tune rather easily and the blade frequently doesn't activate without the snap of the rod tip. I've played with it trying to re-tune it but can't seem to get the right formula. I suspect that the slow bottom bites I'm getting are more due to the super swimming fluke trailer.

What I took away from the MLF deal was using a heavier head. Most of them were throwing 1/2 to 1oz.

Tweaked a mold to make some on a listed 5/8 head, that pours a little heavier.

They work best for me in dirty water, but banging them around shallow wood in brown water will def catch em.  I also have luck winding them through lily pad fields.  I love how weedless they are, you can really work them through some thick stuff.  I use a 7ft 4, heavy power moderate fast rod with 65# braid.

Speaking of chatter bait trailers...I’m new to the chatter bait game as well and have heard that certain trailers have action that works in contrast to the chatter baits cadence. I’m hearing you want one like the Yamamoto segmented trailer Minnow (forgot the name) , as opposed to a swimbait like a Keitech swing impact. Anybody have thoughts on that?

I haven’t used chatterbaits, but I’ve heard you can clip the paddle tail off a keitech and it works better than with the paddle tail.

Here is the Yamamoto bait I was referring to.

That looks like it should work for the snakeheads around me :D! Just about the size of mummichog that folks use to catch them.

Yep. Based on the Razor Shadz, which was pretty much based on the Lake Fork Magic Shad (which was the US version of the Javallon). Whew. The SK Blade minnow is in that group too. A fluke isn't crazy.

The razor Shadz is elaztech. Couple packs will last all year.

The keitechs cause it to lift a little more. Or seem to.

Speaking of Keitechs, I rigged up one  of these Shad Impacts on a chatterbait, made a couple of casts, really like the action, but haven't fished it yet.

Yep I think a Fluke would work well too.

Taking this a step further...😂

Aaron Martens (get well soon Sir) revamped those old scrounger heads for Picasso and made a product called Sinjin heads I believe. These seem to have the same basic actions of a chatter bait but scaled down quite a bit. I’m thinking kind of a great finesse version of a chatter bait.
