Ranger520vx Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 I haven't had a chance to go look yet but my boy has found a couple of nice bunches the last 2 days. They were mostly Grey's so the bigger morels should be up soon. Get out there and get you some to go with those crappie fillets. Alaskageek, Smithvillesteve, BilletHead and 1 other 4
Bill Babler Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Good to know. I used to think the grey mushrooms stayed small till my father in law let some be and they became big yellow/golden rooms. Now there are several videos on the web showing time lapse growth rate of the 4 morel types we have in Missouri. If it doesn't get to hot they can grow for 21 days. Very interesting video, showing little grey ones turning into big yellow ones. Hope he keeps them coming. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
tjm Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 I found big yellow morels a week ago today and some were beyond use then, none since, 80* days and wind had things dried up; so will yesterday's 2.3" rain and this morning's 32* cause new ones to grow?
MOPanfisher Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Have had people tell me that morels grow all in one night and are done when the sun touches them. Have had to show them time lapse videos of the growing over several days, not sure they believed it even then. I have made a coupleasure of ill- advised (by wife) forays through pasture looking, but found none. My best spots are on the other side of the fence, and not quite willing to risk crossing one armed YET. Reports from friends are that the crappie are getting better and moving in to bank about dark on nice evenings. I had build up my nerve to try late yesterday, glad I didn't go, it began to rain and turned COLD about the time I would have been there, such is life in MO in April. LOVE IT.
