PAT92B Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 So I’m guessing that most resorts around the lakes are closed if they are open I don’t know if I’d use them right now and all the campgrounds with Electric tent camping are closed I’m thinking about going to some conservation lakes that do have camping but no electric for charging batteries. I’ve got a power inverter for my truck. Is it ok to charge my batteries off this inverter. I know I’d have to run my truck for awhile but any charge is better then no charge. What’s your thoughts?
MrGiggles Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Kind of inefficient to go from 12 volts, to 120 and back to 12. You could cut out the middle man and just run a set of jumper cables from the truck. Why not run the charger off a genny? -Austin
fishinwrench Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Just take a spare (fully charged) battery, or two. Be mindful about the amount of time you spend standing on that switch.....don't waste any more juice than necessary piddling around in unproductive water. I can make a single charge on my 24v system last 3 days. You should be able to also.
tjm Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Sure is a lot of energy lost in any conversion, gas engine to DC, then DC to AC (biggest loss I think), then AC back to DC without doing the math is probably something like 60-70% loss, but with that in mind and guessing an hour or two of running the truck per charge- it is possible. I think connecting battery direct to truck charging system would be way more efficient, best quality jumper cables or build a dedicated charging hookup for future use. 3-4 charging sessions might cost enough in fuel to pay for a spare battery. So, my question may sound ignorant, cause I know little about boats, but how did boat guys catch fish before electric motors were invented?

Maybe a Stay in Charge system for your boat is what you need.

"The deepest water" he said. Now without having sonar that meant they had to go around dropping stones with goat skin rope tied to them to determine WHERE THAT WAS. How many goats do you reckon had to give up their hide to fund that biological study?
tjm Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 I guess no one here old enough to remember before electric trolling motors. That stuff about Apostles may not be true according to stuff I read on the internet.

tjm Posted April 13, 2020 Posted April 13, 2020 Well, "they" say "if it's on the web, it has to true"; but then "they" (different "they") say that if it's in the Book it has to be true"; so I reckon almost everything is "true"(except Bob's 8# goggle eye and Bill's still lit lantern out of Sugar Creek-them was never in the Book and happened long before the www.) snagged in outlet 3 1
