jdmidwest Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 20 ft narrow jons have been running rivers shallow with props for years. Fiberglass and wood. 1648 is short and wide for stability, takes a whacking on a wake or swell. Cutting the wake on lakes will get you wet, but if you steer into it, it will slide over. I can sit and cast just fine. Just need to get up and stretch my legs some. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

I guess if your just drifting down the middle and making short casts over open water, then ok, go ahead and sit down next to your minner-bucket. But if you're pitching/skipping under overhanging limbs, shooting under cables and dock walkways, or winding up and making bomb casts with a 1/2oz. lipless bait or a Carolina rig.....How do you do THAT sitting down? I won't even mention double-hauling a fat streamer with a sink-tip. 😊 Noway man. Skinny boats are for drinking beer, smoking cigars, and drifting Glo-balls under a bobber....and I'd rather just stay home and mow the yard. 😅
Members Zach Davenport Posted April 28, 2020 Author Members Posted April 28, 2020 Thank yall for your replys. Im just undecided on which boat would best suit my needs. Ive got an old green rocket jon but wanted something a little more stable when I want to go to the lake. I haven't done much fishing on the white. I mainly stick to crooked creek and the Buffalo River and occasional lake trip and hunt up on the lake. Id like to start fishing the lake more and maybe the white. My green rocket is a 36in with a 9.8 its doable on the white and lake but not very fun. Also been looking at a Tracker grizzly 1654 sportsman.
