Gavin Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 Finally going fishing so started ratting through my hardware tackle. Ended up wrapping a half finished rod project, replacing two tip tops, and re spooling 8 reels. Anyone else building rods? BilletHead, dtrs5kprs and snagged in outlet 3 3
Gavin Posted May 17, 2020 Author Posted May 17, 2020 These reel seats need to go. Will work great with a short 3-4 weight. Golden Witch Nickle Silver Sliding Bands, down lockers. One insert is Zebra Wood other is Birds Eye Maple, one set of hardware is blued & clear coated. Parts are interchangeable. $80 for both reel seats TYD. I don’t intend to make anymore 3-4wt fly rods. Reels not for sale. New retail on these is $60-80 each. Stellar bling for special fly rod projects. snagged in outlet 3 1
fishinwrench Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 I'd like to build a moderate/fast 9wt. Bass bug rod, but I can't find a good blank at a price that doesn't make the whole idea just stupid. I have an 8wt. Sage Bolt that does the job.....but I have a hangup with the color of it (orange blank with burnt orange wraps). Darn nice rod but it just doesn't look cool to me.

Since when do you want to be cool? 🤪 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Gavin Posted May 17, 2020 Author Posted May 17, 2020 Sage makes a great rod, have many, but the person in charge of color choices needs to be shown to the door. fishinwrench 1

I am....which is why I take issue with ORANGE fly rods. 🙄 I can't even stand orange line....so I certainly don't want an orange rod. It sure is a beast though. I was looking for something with enough guts to cast big bugs and wrestle a 4+ bass out of a log jam, and my favorite Sage rep hooked me up. It'll do it, and then some.
rps Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 Last week end I finished a crankbait, light spinner bait, finesse jig rod built on a MHX MB 862 blank. Black recoil micro guides spiral wrapped with chartreuse thread to match a Lews reel and a Winn handle. The picture below is not mine but representative of what I did. . nomolites 1
rps Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 Some of the parts are in and the others are coming for the new top water rod I will build. I will use an MHX P783 (6'6" Med. w/ Mod. Fast action). The grip will be the Winn blue swirl split grip and using blue thread I will spiral wrap Black Recoil micro guides. I chose that blank because Zell Rowland and Ike agree that for top water you need that kind of action. If I decide to throw a super spook or the large size whopper plopper, I will need to lob it. I will move my Lews Custom Pro to it.
