Well looks like you will be forced to choose another brand besides Evinrude. BRP released a statement that they are ending production on Etec and Etec G2 outboards.

Well, that stinks about ceasing production. I bought this last week. They were the only ones who would sell me a “man sized” tiller lol...

When I bought the tiller 75 hp Etec for my 2006 Alumacraft (a boat I regret selling, but the wife insisted I buy a steerng wheel boat) I bought a hydraulic tiller device that locked the motor where it was when you took your hand off. That meant you did not fight the torque full time. Mercury bought the company that made them and put them out of business. It competed with their Big Tiller engines. Oddly, their Big Tillers were designed by the same man that owned the company.

Well, this one has a jet foot stuck on it,

so no torque. I absolutely love a tiller though for boat control.

 

Back on the topic of small outboard’s, it was my impression that Tohatsu (sp?) made everything for Evenrude and Mercury below 15 hp. I think they make all the mercury 25 hp motors also. I had a 9.8 Tohatsu  for a little while, it was great!

@JamiePatterson you'll love that 150. I bought my 2013 new in 2014 and it's been rock solid for the 6 years I've owned it. Love that engine!
