Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 3, 2020 Root Admin Posted June 3, 2020 Peg the bead with a toothpick. Easy. We do it all the time in AK. You can peg a bead 2 inches from a bare hook and catch fish.
dpitt Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 I've heard this called a peg egg... wrap the line through the bead twice, push a toothpick in and break off the end. I us a marker to color the toothpick stub red or pink. They make plastic pegs for this, but toothpick works well. Then about an inch below, tie on a hook, size 12 or 14 works. Then drop your scud off the hook bend. I've had luck with this at Taney. I know guides fish this type of bead rigs in the winter at the White chasing big browns, they vary the egg/bead color and fish them two at a time. Also, not sure on the regulation, in Missouri, seems like I heard they require some kind of thread wrap, can't have bare hook, but not sure, might be illegal in Colorado. It's legal in WY, where they fish this type of rig.
Ham Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 I ran into a gentleman at Dew Eddy Shoals that was using a small piece of yarn tied to his tippet a couple of inches ahead of a scud. He was doing Quite well. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Gavin Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 It works...peg the bead, and tie a small snell knot under the pegged bead so it wont slip down. It's an attractor, site fishing gun sight, & weight all in one. Still have a couple hundred beads left over from Alaska...Guides up there like to paint clear beads with flesh tone nail polish for a mottled look.
